What is search engine optimization (SEO)?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of improving a website’s visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs), such as Google or Bing. It involves optimizing website content, structure, and technical elements to increase organic (unpaid) traffic. SEO strategies include keyword research, on-page optimization, link building, and improving user experience. The goal is to make a website more attractive to search engines and users, ultimately driving more relevant visitors. Effective SEO helps businesses reach potential customers who are actively searching for related products or services.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a search engine optimization (SEO) specialist?

To thrive as a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Specialist, you need a solid grasp of keyword research, on-page and off-page optimization, analytics, and content strategy, often supported by a marketing degree or relevant certification. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and experience with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress are typically expected. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you interpret data and coordinate with writers and web developers. These skills ensure improved website visibility, increased organic traffic, and measurable business growth in a competitive digital landscape.

How does a search engine optimization (SEO) professional typically collaborate with content creators and web developers?

SEO professionals work closely with content creators to ensure that written materials are optimized for relevant keywords, user intent, and search engine guidelines. They also collaborate with web developers to implement technical improvements, such as site speed enhancements, structured data, and mobile optimization. Regular communication and teamwork are essential, as SEO recommendations often need to be balanced with creative goals and technical feasibility. This cross-functional collaboration helps ensure that both content and website infrastructure support higher search rankings and a better user experience.

Can you get a search engine optimization job with no experience?

Entry-level SEO jobs often do not require prior experience and focus on skills like keyword research, content optimization, and familiarity with tools such as Google Analytics. Gaining certifications or building a portfolio through personal projects can improve chances of securing an SEO position without experience.

Is it hard to get a job in search engine optimization?

Getting a job in search engine optimization (SEO) can be competitive, but building skills in keyword research, analytics, and familiarity with tools like Google Analytics and SEMrush can improve prospects. Entry-level roles may require some experience or certifications, but many employers value practical knowledge and a strong understanding of digital marketing principles.

Benefits: Comprehensive

Position Overview:

Leadline Performance Marketing partners with mid-market and enterprise organizations to transform marketing investment into measurable revenue outcomes. We architect performance systems that extend beyond campaign execution and directly tie every marketing activity to the business results that matter most, and we hold ourselves accountable to delivering them. At the core of our differentiation is a proprietary, in-house AI platform that creates a sustained competitive advantage for our clients. By integrating human expertise with first-party data, advanced analytics, and actionable intelligence, we activate brand, creative, digital experience, and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) as true drivers of performance.

We are seeking a Director of Sales to lead Leadline through its next phase of accelerated growth, with a mandate to materially scale revenue within 24 months. This is a high-impact, enterprise leadership role for a proven revenue executive who is motivated to build, own, and shape a scalable sales organization.

The Director of Sales will inherit a lean, high-potential team, along with the resources and executive alignment required to expand it. This leader will define the go-to-market strategy, own revenue performance, and operate as a key member of the leadership team with direct visibility to the President/CEO. This is not a maintenance role. It is a build-and-scale opportunity for a leader ready to define their next chapter of impact.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Revenue Growth

  • Architect and execute a scalable go-to-market strategy focused on mid-market and enterprise client acquisition

  • Identify and penetrate high-value market segments to accelerate pipeline development and revenue growth

  • Own full revenue accountability, including forecasting, pipeline management, and consistent delivery against targets

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and scale a high-performing sales team, beginning with an existing group of two Business Development Managers and expanding to include three Account Executives

  • Recruit, onboard, and retain top-tier sales talent, including two additional BDMs and one additional AE, while instilling a performance-driven, accountable culture

  • Implement structured training, coaching, and performance management systems to elevate team effectiveness

Sales & Marketing Alignment

  • Partner closely with the COO and the Marketing Manager to align sales and marketing efforts to maximize pipeline efficiency.

  • Leverage CRM systems, data infrastructure, and analytics to optimize funnel performance and conversion efficiency

  • Collaborate with Creative and Product leadership to ensure market-facing messaging clearly communicates Leadline’s differentiated value, including its proprietary AI capabilities and outcome-based model

Strategy & Reporting

  • Monitor market dynamics, competitive positioning, and buyer behavior to inform strategic direction

  • Deliver clear, data-driven insights and performance reporting to executive leadership

  • Manage the sales function with disciplined financial oversight, ensuring efficient and profitable growth

Education and Experience:

  • 12–20+ years of experience in sales and marketing, with at least 10 years in a leadership role owning a revenue target and the team that delivered it.

  • Documented track record of scaling revenue in a B2B services environment. We want to see what you built and what it became.

  • Experience selling marketing services or software offerings; familiarity with performance marketing, digital media, or marketing technology is a strong plus.

  • Proven ability to sell consultatively to mid-market and enterprise buyers with longer sales cycles and multiple stakeholders.

  • Builder mindset with hands-on experience recruiting, developing, and retaining top sales talent

  • Strategic operator with the ability to translate market insights into executable growth plans

  • Strong analytical acumen with deep familiarity in CRM platforms and sales performance tools

  • Executive-level communication skills, with credibility in front of senior client stakeholders

  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
