What is search engine optimization (SEO)?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of improving a website’s visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs), such as Google or Bing. It involves optimizing website content, structure, and technical elements to increase organic (unpaid) traffic. SEO strategies include keyword research, on-page optimization, link building, and improving user experience. The goal is to make a website more attractive to search engines and users, ultimately driving more relevant visitors. Effective SEO helps businesses reach potential customers who are actively searching for related products or services.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a search engine optimization (SEO) specialist?

To thrive as a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Specialist, you need a solid grasp of keyword research, on-page and off-page optimization, analytics, and content strategy, often supported by a marketing degree or relevant certification. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and experience with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress are typically expected. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you interpret data and coordinate with writers and web developers. These skills ensure improved website visibility, increased organic traffic, and measurable business growth in a competitive digital landscape.

How does a search engine optimization (SEO) professional typically collaborate with content creators and web developers?

SEO professionals work closely with content creators to ensure that written materials are optimized for relevant keywords, user intent, and search engine guidelines. They also collaborate with web developers to implement technical improvements, such as site speed enhancements, structured data, and mobile optimization. Regular communication and teamwork are essential, as SEO recommendations often need to be balanced with creative goals and technical feasibility. This cross-functional collaboration helps ensure that both content and website infrastructure support higher search rankings and a better user experience.

Can you get a search engine optimization job with no experience?

Entry-level SEO jobs often do not require prior experience and focus on skills like keyword research, content optimization, and familiarity with tools such as Google Analytics. Gaining certifications or building a portfolio through personal projects can improve chances of securing an SEO position without experience.

Is it hard to get a job in search engine optimization?

Getting a job in search engine optimization (SEO) can be competitive, but building skills in keyword research, analytics, and familiarity with tools like Google Analytics and SEMrush can improve prospects. Entry-level roles may require some experience or certifications, but many employers value practical knowledge and a strong understanding of digital marketing principles.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role owns the end-to-end digital marketing function driving organic search growth, managing multilingual content, overseeing paid advertising strategy, and collaborating across internal teams and external vendors to ensure marketing efforts translate into measurable business results. The ideal candidate is a data-driven marketer who combines deep SEO expertise with strong communication and project management skills, and who is comfortable leveraging modern tools including AI-powered platforms to continuously improve Zedcor's digital presence.

Key Responsibilities

SEO Strategy & Execution

  • Develop, implement, and continuously optimize Zedcor's SEO strategy across all digital properties, with a focus on driving organic search visibility, qualified traffic, and lead generation.
  • Conduct ongoing keyword research, competitive analysis, and search landscape assessments to identify opportunities and inform content and technical SEO priorities.
  • Manage and monitor SEO performance across multiple campaigns and platforms, using tools including SEMrush, Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Search Console, and CallRail to track rankings, traffic, conversions, and ROI.
  • Lead technical SEO initiatives including page speed optimization, mobile performance, crawlability, indexing, structured data, and site architecture improvements in collaboration with web development partners.
  • Oversee and optimize Zedcor's WordPress website, collaborating with internal teams and external developers on UX improvements, landing page optimization, and ongoing site health.
  • Monitor and optimize website content and structure for visibility in AI-powered search experiences, including Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other emerging search platforms.

Content Creation & Digital Copywriting

  • Develop and oversee the creation of high-quality, SEO-optimized content across website pages, blog articles, landing pages, case studies, and marketing collateral.
  • Leverage generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to assist with content ideation, keyword research, content drafts, and campaign planning, while maintaining brand voice and editorial quality.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to produce content that supports sales enablement, brand awareness, and lead generation objectives.
  • Ensure all written content is accurate, on-brand, and optimized for both search performance and target audience engagement.

Paid Advertising & Digital Campaigns

  • Provide strategic input on Google Ads and Meta Ads campaigns, working alongside in-house team members or external partners managing day-to-day platform execution.
  • Monitor paid campaign performance, analyze data, and recommend optimizations to improve lead quality, cost-per-acquisition, and overall return on ad spend.
  • Collaborate with the team to align paid and organic search strategies for maximum digital presence and coverage.
    Brand Management
  • Serve as the steward of Zedcor's digital brand, ensuring consistent application of brand standards — including tone of voice, visual identity, and messaging across all digital channels and marketing materials.
  • Develop and maintain brand guidelines for digital applications and provide direction to internal teams and external vendors on brand-consistent execution.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen and evolve Zedcor's digital brand presence in alignment with company growth objectives and market positioning.

Social Media & Email Marketing

  • Oversee Zedcor's social media content strategy across relevant platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter), coordinating content creation, scheduling, and performance monitoring.
  • Develop and execute email marketing campaigns and automated workflows targeting clients, prospects, and industry contacts to support lead nurturing, retention, and engagement goals.
  • Manage email marketing platforms and contact databases, ensuring list hygiene, audience segmentation, and compliance with applicable anti-spam legislation.
  • Coordinate video marketing initiatives and other multimedia content as needed to support broader campaign and brand objectives.

Analytics, Reporting & Market Research

  • Build and maintain marketing performance dashboards tracking key metrics across SEO, paid media, social media, email, and website performance, and present regular reports with actionable insights to the CEO.
  • Interpret data across all digital channels, translating findings into clear, strategic recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Conduct ongoing market research to monitor industry trends, competitor digital strategies, and emerging marketing technologies that can enhance Zedcor's competitive position.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in digital marketing, with a strong focus on SEO strategy and execution.
  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, Advertising, Business, Digital Media, Information Systems, or a related field is required. Candidates with degrees in other areas may be considered if they have a strong track record in digital marketing strategy and execution.
  • Proven track record managing SEO performance across multiple campaigns and platforms.
  • Experience managing SEO for multilingual websites, particularly English and Spanish content.
  • Deep knowledge of SEO tools including SEMrush, Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Search Console, CallRail, and similar platforms.
  • Strong familiarity with WordPress and ability to collaborate on UX, content, and technical site improvements.
  • Experience coordinating across internal teams and managing third-party vendors, including SEO, web development, design, and content partners.
  • Understanding of technical SEO elements including page speed, mobile optimization, and crawlability/indexing.
  • Proficiency in Google Ads and Meta Ads platforms, with strategic input capabilities even when day-to-day management is handled in-house.
