Job description

We are seeking an experienced Seafood Manager for our fresh Seafood Department operations! Bring your love for seafood and your experience to our gourmet store and we will offer you the freshest seafood department to manage.

Our Seafood Managers at Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace are responsible for overseeing the operations and management of the department. Their primary focus is on ensuring the availability of high-quality seafood products, maintaining inventory levels and providing exceptional customer service.

Seafood Procurement:

  1. Source and select seafood products from reliable suppliers, ensuring freshness and quality.
  2. Establish and maintain relationships with seafood vendors and negotiate pricing and contracts.
  3. Monitor market trends and adjust procurement strategies accordingly to optimize product selection and availability.

Inventory Management:

  1. Manage and maintain inventory levels, including receiving, storage, rotation, and disposal of seafood products.
  2. Conduct regular stock checks, track inventory turnover, and minimize product waste. Implement effective systems for proper labeling, pricing, and dating of seafood products.

Quality Assurance:

  1. Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations, including HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) guidelines.
  2. Inspect incoming seafood shipments for freshness, quality, and adherence to specifications.
  3. Monitor and enforce proper handling, storage, and display of seafood products to maintain optimal freshness.

Staff Supervision and Training:

  1. Recruit, train, and supervise seafood department staff members, including scheduling and performance management.
  2. Provide ongoing training on seafood product knowledge, handling techniques, and customer service skills.
  3. Foster a positive work environment, promote teamwork, and address any employee concerns or performance issues.

Customer Service:

  1. Assist customers with their seafood purchases, providing recommendations, cooking instructions, and information on sustainability and sourcing.
  2. Resolve customer complaints and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. Implement strategies to increase seafood sales, such as promotions, tastings, and educational events.

Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

  1. Stay updated on relevant industry regulations, food safety guidelines, and sustainability practices.
  2. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing seafood handling, labeling, and traceability.
  3. Implement and enforce food safety procedures and conduct regular inspections to maintain a safe working environment.

Requirements

  1. HS Diploma or equivalent
  2. Must have 5 years of experience working in a seafood department of a grocery store or seafood store, with 3 of those years in a management position
  3. Experience working with all types of fish, fileting, storage, inventory, staffing, training and all other management functions necessary in a seafood kitchen
  4. Strong knowledge of seafood preparations and displays within a seafood department
  5. Must have strong leadership skills and ability to lead a team
  6. Ability to deliver friendly, courteous, prompt customer service
  7. Ability to read, write and do simple math problems
  8. Ability to interpret, understand and follow instructions and solve problems
