What is SDS 2 software?

SDS 2 is a software used in structural steel design and detailing, enabling engineers and fabricators to create detailed 3D models, generate fabrication drawings, and improve project accuracy. It is commonly used in the construction industry and requires knowledge of structural engineering and CAD tools.

What is the salary of SDS2?

SDS2 is a software company that develops structural steel detailing software, not a job title. If referring to a role involving SDS2 software, salaries vary based on experience, location, and job responsibilities, typically ranging from $50,000 to $100,000 annually for positions such as software developers or technical specialists. Certification in SDS2 and related skills can influence earning potential.

What is the difference between Sds 2 vs Tekla Structures?

AspectSds 2Tekla Structures
Primary UseStructural steel and metal fabrication designStructural engineering and detailed 3D modeling
Required CertificationsTypically none, but familiarity with CAD software helpsStructural engineering certifications often preferred
Work EnvironmentFabrication shops, design officesEngineering firms, construction sites, design offices
Industry UsageWidespread in steel fabrication and detailingCommon in structural engineering and construction projects

Both Sds 2 and Tekla Structures are used for structural design and detailing, but Sds 2 is more focused on steel fabrication workflows, while Tekla Structures offers comprehensive structural modeling for engineering purposes. The choice depends on the specific industry needs and project scope.

What are some common challenges faced by SDS2 detailers, and how can they be addressed?

SDS2 detailers often face challenges such as interpreting complex structural drawings, managing tight project deadlines, and ensuring accuracy while collaborating with engineers and fabricators. To address these challenges, it's important to maintain clear communication with project stakeholders, stay updated on SDS2 software features, and follow established quality control processes. Many detailers also benefit from ongoing training and participating in user forums to share best practices and troubleshoot issues.

What are SDS2 jobs?

SDS2 jobs refer to positions that involve using the SDS2 software, which is a specialized 3D steel detailing and modeling program widely used in the structural steel industry. Professionals in these roles create detailed fabrication drawings, design connections, and generate accurate models for steel structures. SDS2 jobs typically require knowledge of engineering principles, drafting, and proficiency in the SDS2 software suite. These roles are critical for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of steel fabrication and construction projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an SDS2 Detailer, and why are they important?

To excel as an SDS2 Detailer, you need a strong background in structural steel detailing, drafting, and construction drawing interpretation, often supported by experience or training in engineering or architectural fields. Familiarity with SDS2 software, AutoCAD, and related steel modeling tools is essential, along with knowledge of industry standards such as AISC. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are vital soft skills for accurately conveying design intent and collaborating with engineers and fabricators. These competencies are crucial for producing precise fabrication drawings and ensuring project efficiency and structural integrity.

What are some detail-oriented jobs?

Detail-oriented jobs include roles such as CAD technicians, quality control inspectors, and data analysts, which require careful attention to accuracy and precision. These positions often involve working with technical drawings, data entry, or inspection processes, and may require specific skills or certifications to ensure high-quality work.

Job Description
Remote SDS/2 Miscellaneous Metals Detailer
Position: Senior Miscellaneous Metals Detailer (Remote)

Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a well-established structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabricator seeking an experienced SDS/2 Detailer to join their team. This is a fully remote opportunity for a detailer who thrives in a collaborative environment and takes pride in producing accurate, fabrication-ready drawings.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience detailing stairs, handrails, guardrails, ladders, ornamental/architectural metals, and other miscellaneous metal packages, while also serving as a quality checkpoint by reviewing and checking the work of others.
If you're looking for a stable company with a strong backlog and an opportunity to make an immediate impact from anywhere in the United States, we'd love to speak with you.
Responsibilities
  • Produce detailed fabrication and erection drawings using SDS/2 for miscellaneous metals projects.
  • Detail a variety of architectural and commercial miscellaneous metals including:
    • Stairs
    • Handrails & guardrails
    • Pipe rails
    • Ladders
    • Platforms
    • Miscellaneous structural components
  • Review and check detailing completed by other team members for accuracy and constructability.
  • Generate accurate shop drawings, erection drawings, bills of material, and CNC data.
  • Import, manipulate, and coordinate design files including ENC, DXF, KSS, and other production file formats.
  • Coordinate with project managers, estimators, engineers, fabrication, and production teams to resolve design questions.
  • Ensure drawings meet project specifications, shop standards, and fabrication requirements.
  • Maintain project schedules while managing multiple detailing assignments.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of professional SDS/2 detailing experience (10+ years strongly preferred).
  • Extensive experience detailing miscellaneous metals rather than solely structural steel.
  • Demonstrated experience detailing:
    • Stairs
    • Railings
    • Architectural miscellaneous metals
  • Experience checking and reviewing detailing work for quality and accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes and shop production.
  • Experience working with production/design files such as:
    • ENC
    • DXF
    • KSS
    • Similar CNC/production file formats
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of SDS/2 detailing experience.
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, and architectural miscellaneous metals projects.
  • Familiarity with fabrication shop workflows and CNC production.
  • Previous experience mentoring or assisting junior detailers.
What We're Looking For
Beyond technical ability, we're seeking someone with a proven history of stable employment. We value professionals who have demonstrated long-term commitment and success with previous employers and are looking to build another lasting career.
Why Apply?
  • Fully remote opportunity
  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • 100% Paid Medical Insurance
  • Stable company with a strong project backlog
  • Collaborative team environment
  • Long-term career opportunity with an established fabricator
  • Opportunity to work on complex, high-profile miscellaneous metals projects
