What is an SDG?

SDGs, or Sustainable Development Goals, are a collection of 17 global objectives set by the United Nations to address pressing challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation by 2030. These goals provide a universal framework for countries, organizations, and individuals to work together towards a more sustainable and equitable future. The SDGs cover areas like health, education, clean water, affordable energy, and responsible consumption, aiming to improve quality of life for all people while protecting the planet.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an SDG specialist?

To thrive as an SDG Specialist, you need a solid background in sustainability, policy analysis, project management, and often a relevant degree in environmental studies, public policy, or international development. Familiarity with data analysis tools, sustainability reporting frameworks (such as GRI or SDG indicators), and project management software is typically required. Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and cross-cultural collaboration skills help drive initiatives and foster partnerships. These competencies are crucial to effectively design, implement, and monitor programs that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working in SDG roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working in SDG roles often encounter challenges such as balancing diverse stakeholder interests, navigating complex regulatory environments, and measuring the long-term impact of sustainability initiatives. These roles typically require strong project management skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments, NGOs, and governmental agencies. Addressing these challenges often involves continuous learning, leveraging data-driven approaches for impact measurement, and fostering effective communication to align various stakeholders toward shared sustainability objectives.

Field Energy Solutions Sales Consultant (SDG&E Programs)

A Hiring Group

San Diego, CA

$70K - $100K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 11 days ago

Job description

We are looking for a San Diego-based, commission-only Field Sales Consultant to sell utility-backed energy efficiency programs in partnership with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E).
This is a fully on-site, field sales role. You will be visiting commercial properties, walking job sites, identifying upgrade opportunities, and selling energy efficiency improvements that are subsidized by SDG&E rebates. This role is ideal for someone who knows how to sell real operational work, not just talk about it.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Perform on-site visits at commercial properties across San Diego
  • Identify and sell energy efficiency upgrades, including:

1. Occupancy sensors
2. Smart thermostats
3. 2x4 LED lighting retrofits
4. Lighting controls and efficiency upgrades

  • Explain SDG&E rebate programs and how they significantly reduce project costs
  • Work directly with business owners, facility managers, and property managers
  • Coordinate with internal operations teams to ensure projects are executed correctly
  • Close deals and earn commission on completed sales

What We're Looking For
Proven field or on-site sales experience (energy, lighting, electrical, HVAC, construction, facilities, or similar)
Comfortable walking job sites and discussing installation work and equipment
Strong communication and persuasion skills
English required (Spanish is a plus, not required)
Self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work independently
Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally within San Diego
Available to work fully in the field (not remote)
What You'll Get
Uncapped commission on closed deals
Proven, in-demand offering supported by SDG&E incentives
Sales training on utility programs and upgrade offerings
Operational and technical support - you focus on selling
Opportunity to grow with a company expanding utility programs nationally
Who This Role Is Best For
Experienced commission-only sales professionals
Closers who want control over their income
Field sales reps who prefer being on-site, not behind a desk
Anyone confident selling tangible upgrades with immediate customer savings

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule
  • Opportunities for advancement
  • Professional development assistance

Work Location: On the road
