Senior SDET Consultant (Hybrid QA & Automation)

Chicago, IL | Hybrid | Long-Term Consulting Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) Consultant to join a high-performing engineering environment focused on scalable automation, platform reliability, and enterprise-quality software delivery.

This role bridges Quality Assurance and Automation Engineering, requiring a consultant who can both perform deep testing analysis and build scalable automation solutions that align with broader engineering objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Testing & Quality Ownership
• Develop comprehensive test plans and execute functional, integration, regression, and system testing
• Identify, document, troubleshoot, and resolve complex application and platform issues
• Own regression suite maintenance and proactively resolve regression failures
• Partner with engineering teams to ensure high-quality releases and continuous delivery

Automation Engineering
• Design, develop, and scale automated test frameworks
• Build maintainable, modular automation solutions using Core Java
• Create clear, readable test scenarios using Cucumber
• Collaborate closely with Developers, QA Engineers, and SET teams on testing strategy and implementation

Platform & DevOps
• Work extensively within Linux/Unix environments for troubleshooting and analysis
• Support CI/CD automation pipelines using Jenkins, Bamboo, XLR, Ansible, or similar tools
• Contribute to scalable testing and deployment processes across enterprise applications

Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in QA Automation / SDET environments
• Strong Core Java development experience
• Expertise with Cucumber, Maven, and Git
• Strong Linux/Unix command-line proficiency
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Financial services, trading systems, or risk management technology experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
