Job description

1-800-Flowers.com, Inc. is seeking a highly effective Scrum Master - Level II to support Enterprise Technology teams, with a focus on backend and eCommerce platforms. This role will guide one or more Agile teams (Scrum and/or Kanban) in delivering scalable, high-quality solutions.
The Scrum Master will act as a servant leader and Agile coach, driving continuous improvement, optimizing delivery flow, and ensuring alignment between engineering, product, and business stakeholders. This role requires strong technical fluency, experience with backend systems, and the ability to operate across multiple teams and delivery models.
Key Responsibilities
Agile Leadership & Delivery
  • Serve as Scrum Master for one or more Agile teams using Scrum and/or Kanban frameworks
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Reviews, Retrospectives, Backlog Refinement) with a focus on outcomes and efficiency
  • Guide teams in adopting Agile best practices, scaling frameworks (e.g., SAFe), and continuous improvement
  • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality increments aligned to business priorities and technical standards

Flow Optimization & Metrics
  • Track and analyze team performance using Agile metrics (velocity, cycle time, lead time, throughput, burn-down/up charts)
  • Drive data-informed decision-making to improve predictability and delivery flow
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements to increase team efficiency

Impediment Removal & Risk Management
  • Proactively identify, escalate, and remove blockers impacting team delivery
  • Manage dependencies across teams, especially in backend and distributed system environments
  • Partner with leadership to mitigate delivery risks and ensure alignment across initiatives

Product & Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Product Owners and business stakeholders to maintain a well-groomed, prioritized backlog
  • Support backlog refinement with a focus on clear acceptance criteria and technical readiness
  • Facilitate communication between engineering, product, QA, and business stakeholders
  • Ensure transparency through regular reporting and stakeholder updates

What Makes This Role Stand Out
  • Opportunity to support backend and platform engineering teams, not just UI/product delivery
  • Exposure to hybrid Agile environments (Scrum + Kanban)
  • High visibility across Product, Engineering, and PMO leadership

Agile & Delivery Experience
  • 3-6+ years of experience as a Scrum Master in IT organizations
  • Proven experience supporting backend, API-driven, or platform engineering teams
  • Experience managing multiple Agile teams simultaneously
  • Strong working knowledge of Scrum, Kanban, and hybrid Agile methodologies
  • Experience in eCommerce or high-transaction digital platforms preferred

Technical & Tooling Proficiency
  • Solid understanding of backend systems, microservices architecture, APIs, and integrations
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and release management
  • Strong experience with Jira (advanced usage including workflows, dashboards, and reporting)
  • Proficiency with reporting and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Smartsheet)
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to drive efficiency and team value

Metrics & Process Improvement
  • Experience using Agile metrics to drive delivery improvements
  • Ability to interpret data and translate it into actionable insights
  • Experience implementing process improvements across teams

Leadership & Soft Skills
  • Strong facilitation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to operate in fast-paced, dynamic environments with competing priorities
  • Highly organized with strong prioritization and multitasking capabilities

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Certifications (Preferred)
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM I/II)
  • Advanced certifications preferred:
    • Certified Scrum Professional (CSP)
    • SAFe Scrum Master (SSM) or SAFe Advanced Scrum Master (SASM)
    • PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner)
    • Kanban certifications (e.g., KMP, TKP)

Nice-to-Have Experience
  • Experience with scaled Agile environments (SAFe, Nexus, Spotify model)
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience supporting distributed or offshore teams
  • Background in QA, development, or DevOps

The expected salary range for this position is $85,000 to $110,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, internal equity, and other factors permitted by law.
