What is a scripting automation engineer?

Scripting Automation Engineers are professionals who design, develop, and maintain scripts to automate repetitive or complex tasks within software systems, IT operations, or business workflows. They use programming languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell to create solutions that improve efficiency, reduce errors, and streamline processes. Their work often involves collaborating with other engineers and departments to identify automation opportunities and ensure seamless integration with existing systems.

How does a scripting automation engineer typically collaborate with software developers and QA teams on automation projects?

Scripting Automation Engineers work closely with software developers to understand application functionality and identify areas for automation, often participating in code reviews or design discussions. They also coordinate with QA teams to design, implement, and maintain automated test scripts that align with testing goals and requirements. Regular communication, shared documentation, and collaboration tools are essential to ensure smooth integration of automation scripts into continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. This teamwork helps deliver robust, scalable automation solutions and improves overall software quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a scripting automation engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Scripting Automation Engineer, you need strong programming skills (such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell), a solid understanding of automation frameworks, and a degree in computer science or a related field. Key responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) across multi-account cloud environments.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting frequent, safe deployments.

  • Develop automation workflows and integrate AI coding assistants into engineering workflows.

Job description

About the Roleย

We're looking for a mid-to-senior DevOps/ Cloud Automation Engineer who thrives at the intersection of infrastructure automationย andย applied AI tooling.ย You'llย help us build and scale the systems that keep our cloud infrastructure secure, compliant, and efficient - while also driving adoption of AI-assisted engineering workflows (agentic coding tools, automation pipelines, and AI-powered operational dashboards) across the team.ย

This isn't a "keep the lights on" DevOps/ Cloud Automation Engineer role. You'll be expected to actively look for ways to automate toil out of infrastructure, security, and compliance work - and to bring modern AI tooling into that process where it adds real leverage.ย

Location
  • Atlanta / Remote

What You'll Doย

  • Design, build, andย maintainย infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) across multi-account cloud environments, with an eye toward cost efficiency, security, and compliance (FedRAMP/GovCloud experience a strong plus)ย
  • Build andย maintainย CI/CD pipelines supporting frequent, safe deploymentsย
  • Develop automation workflows (e.g., n8n, Zapier, custom scripts/APIs) that reduce manual operational and compliance workย
  • Integrate AI coding assistants and agentic tools (Claude Code, Copilot, or similar) into engineering workflows, and helpย establishย governance/cost practices for AI tooling adoption org-wideย
  • Monitor infrastructure health and security posture using tools like Datadog, buildingย dashboardsย and alerting that surfacesย real signal,ย end-to-end visibility, actionable alerts, dependency monitoring, and automated remediation.ย
  • Continuouslyย identifyย opportunities toย eliminateย repetitive work through scripting,ย IaC, or AI-assisted toolingย

What We're Looking Forย

Required:ย

  • 4-7+ years in DevOps/ Cloud Automation, SRE, or cloud infrastructure engineering rolesย
  • Strong hands-on experience with a major cloud provider (AWS, Azure); AWS GovCloud experience is a plusย
  • Proficiencyย with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform strongly preferred)ย
  • Solid scripting/automation skills (Python, Bash, or similar)ย
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar)ย
  • Comfort working in regulated/compliance-heavy environments (FedRAMP,ย IL5,ย SOC 2, or similar)ย
  • Genuine curiosity about AI/automation tooling andย a track recordย of adopting new tools to improve workflowsย

Nice to Have:ย

  • Experience with low-code automation platforms (n8n, Zapier)ย
  • Familiarity with AI coding agents (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex) in a professional engineering settingย
  • Experience supporting federal clients or federal compliance frameworks (FedRAMP,ย IL5)ย
  • Datadog or equivalent observability platform experienceย
  • Container hardening / security scanning experience (e.g.,ย RapidFort)ย
Additional Information:

This position requires access to information that is controlled by the Export Administration Regulations ("EAR").ย  A candidate must qualify as a "U.S. Person" or be otherwise eligible to access EAR covered materials through an EAR exception or license.ย  A "U.S. Person" as defined by the EARย includes a U.S. Citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

As the Company is a partner with the United States government, this position may require access to sensitive government information. Accordingly, candidates must be capable of passing an SF-85 background check and obtaining public trust clearance if required.
