Job description

 SUMMARY

Administer medications to participants as ordered by the physician per medication script; under the direction of the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. The administration of medications shall be done in accordance with established nursing standards, the policies, procedures, and practices of the facility, and the requirements of this state.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function listed below.  

Under the supervision of nursing department, the medical support staff CMT will have the following requirements, duties, and responsibilities:

  • Accurately safely prepare, administer, and document the oral and/or topical medications that are commonly used in the facility that are ordered for participant use.
  • Ensure that no medication is administered without a written, signed and dated order from an attending licensed physician.
  • Verify that adequate supply of stock medications, supplies, and equipment is on hand to meet the nursing needs of the participants. Report needs to supervisor.
  • Verify that narcotic records are accurate for your shift.
  • Follow facility policies and procedures regarding the destruction of medications.
  • Provide medical transportation of residents to appointments. 
  • Obtain the necessary paperwork from the Physician/clinician and provide liaison work back to manager and facility.
  • Schedule medical appointments, as requested.
  • Obtain medication from the pharmacy and distribute to residences. Review medication inventory, documentation and expirations.
  • Performs other related duties and activities as required, including providing DSP duties

Minimum Knowledge and Skills required for the Job

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required to perform the job.

 

Education and Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Experienced direct care provider and CMT with a minimum of one year of positive performance in healthcare. Meets all requirments of direct care position.

 

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Active Certified Medication Aide

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be 21 years of age to be considered for role

 

Other Requirements:

  • Travel as part of role with driving record that meets Sevita standards

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy work.  Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
