What is a Script Engineer?

A Script Engineer is a professional responsible for writing, maintaining, and optimizing scripts that automate tasks, processes, or workflows within software systems. They often work with scripting languages like Python, Bash, PowerShell, or JavaScript to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and support software development or IT operations. Script Engineers may also troubleshoot scripts, integrate them with other tools, and ensure they follow best coding practices.

How does a Script Engineer typically collaborate with development and operations teams on automation projects?

Script Engineers regularly work alongside software developers and IT operations teams to design, implement, and maintain automation scripts that streamline workflows and system processes. Collaboration often involves gathering requirements, understanding system architectures, and troubleshooting issues together to ensure seamless integration of automation solutions. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as Script Engineers frequently participate in code reviews, cross-functional meetings, and documentation efforts to keep all stakeholders informed and projects on track.

Game Developers have a broader role that includes designing, programming, and sometimes managing entire game projects. The roles overlap in skills and work environment, but Script Engineers typically concentrate on scripting tasks within the development process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Script Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Script Engineer, you need strong programming skills, typically in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell, along with a solid understanding of software development principles. Familiarity with automation tools, version control systems like Git, and continuous integration platforms is commonly required. Problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help Script Engineers collaborate and deliver reliable automation solutions. These skills are essential for improving efficiency, reducing manual errors, and supporting seamless software development and deployment processes.

27Global is a rapidly growing company in the dynamic industry of software, cloud, and data engineering. We pride ourselves on the quality of the services we deliver, the clients we serve, and the strength of our culture. Our commitment to our employees is evidenced by our consecutive Best Places to Work awards.

As a member of 27Global's Cloud Engineering Team, youโ€™ll play a key role in helping our clients modernize their IT infrastructure and help them pursue next-generation cloud innovation. Our Cloud Engineering team is composed of skilled Cloud Architects, Cloud Engineers, and Site Reliability Engineers with a commitment to keeping up with emerging technologies, platforms, and applications, to maintain our competitive advantage in the design, development, and implementation of large-scale projects in the cloud.

As Cloud Engineer III, youโ€™ll be serving as an escalation point for complex issues, while working closely with onshore and offshore cloud engineers to plan and implement cloud solutions based on approved architectural designs. This role combines deep technical expertise with an emphasis on project leadership responsibilities.

Joining 27Global is an exciting high-growth opportunity offering a competitive base salary, performance bonuses, and variable compensation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as senior technical expert for cloud engineering execution, troubleshooting, and production readiness across Azure projects
  • Engage directly with customers and internal stakeholders to present implementation progress, technical details, and operational considerations in partnership with Cloud Architects
  • Manage and optimize cost, scalability, and performance of cloud infrastructure in alignment with approved architectural standards and best practices
  • Implement cloud solutions using infrastructure as code based on approved architectural designs, ensuring consistency with defined standards and patterns
  • Formally and informally mentor junior cloud engineers
  • Ensure cloud solutions meet reliability, security, and operational standards prior to production handoff
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide SRE support
Requirements:

What you bring:

  • 7+ years of experience working with cloud infrastructure (Azure)
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Github Actions, Azure DevOps, AWS CodePipeline, GitLab CI)
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting networking, Windows/Linux OS, and various cloud services
  • Experience with writing and troubleshooting scripts (Python, Powershell, BASH)
  • Demonstrated experience with containers, microservice architectures, and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience operating and supporting production systems at scale
    • Incident response and production support
    • Monitoring, logging, and alerting platforms (e.g., Cloud-native tools, New Relic, Datadog, Prometheus)
    • Linux systems and cloud networking fundamentals
    • Experience creating/updating runbooks, operational documentation, and onboarding standards
  • Experience with deploying/configuring relational and NoSQL databases (MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)

Ways to stand out:

  • Experience with other cloud service providers such as AWS / GCP
  • Understanding of SRE best practices
  • Understanding of Databricks and Data pipelines
  • Experience interpreting and contributing implementation detail to cloud architectural diagrams for complex environments
  • Experience presenting cloud implementation details, operational considerations, and reliability tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience in a client-facing role, working directly with clients from multiple levels of the organization; often presenting and documenting client environment suggestions and improvements
  • Experience with cloud security, such as setting security controls (security groups, profiles, permissions, and key management strategy)
  • Experience with deploying/configuring management tools (Puppet, Chef, and Ansible)

Why 27G?:

  • Four-time award winner of Best Place to Work by the Kansas City Business Journal
  • A casual and fun small business work environment
  • Competitive compensation, benefits, time off, profit sharing, and quarterly bonus potential
  • Commitment to continued learning through development, research, and certifications

At 27Global, we follow a hybrid work model, allowing employees to work both remotely and in-office as needed, therefore, candidates should be located in the Kansas City or Denver Metro areas. Also, please note that currently we do not sponsor immigration visas for prospective employees. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for considering 27Global as a potential workplace.
