Screenwriting Teacher information

What does a screenwriting teacher do?

A Screenwriting Teacher instructs students on the principles and techniques of writing scripts for film, television, and other media. They guide students through storytelling structure, character development, dialogue, and formatting standards used in the industry. Screenwriting Teachers often provide feedback on students' scripts, facilitate workshops, and help aspiring writers understand the business aspects of screenwriting. They may teach in academic settings, workshops, or private classes, adapting their approach to different skill levels.

What are some common challenges a screenwriting teacher faces when guiding students with diverse storytelling backgrounds?

A Screenwriting Teacher often works with students who have varying levels of writing experience and different narrative perspectives. One of the main challenges is adapting teaching methods to nurture each student’s unique voice while still emphasizing the fundamentals of strong screenplay structure and industry standards. Additionally, balancing constructive feedback with encouragement is key to helping students develop resilience and confidence in their writing. Collaboration with other faculty members, such as film production or directing instructors, is also common to provide students with a holistic understanding of how their scripts fit into the larger filmmaking process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a screenwriting teacher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Screenwriting Teacher, you need a deep understanding of screenwriting structure, storytelling techniques, and industry standards, often supported by a degree in film, creative writing, or a related field and professional scriptwriting experience. Familiarity with screenwriting software like Final Draft or Celtx, and sometimes experience with online teaching platforms, is typically required. Exceptional communication, mentorship, and constructive feedback skills set outstanding teachers apart in this role. These skills are crucial to effectively guide aspiring writers, foster creativity, and prepare students for the demands of the film and television industry.

Job description

About Us

At Cast & Crew, we've empowered creativity and supported the global entertainment industry for decades. Together with our family of brands - Backstage, CAPS, Checks & Balances, Final Draft, Media Services, Sargent-Disc, and The TEAM Companies - we operate as a combined entertainment technology and services provider offering industry standard screenwriting accounting software, digital payroll products, data & reporting, and a host of creative tools. The industry continues to move faster than ever, and the need for our expertise, our technology, and our people has never been greater. We are a production's best ally every step of the way.#OneCastOneCrew

Final Draft has been the industry standard in screenwriting software for over 30 years. Ninety-five percent of Hollywood productions are written on it. Studios expect it. Film programs teach it. Writers depend on it. The brand does not need an introduction.

What it needs is a growth system. Final Draft has never had a dedicated outbound motion. The white space is real, the relationships are warm, and the product sells itself once the right conversation starts. This role exists to start more of them.

Position Overview

We are looking for someone who can look at a brand with this much recognition, ask where it isn't, and then go there. You will build campaigns, run nurture programs, develop partnerships, identify new market opportunities, and own the motion from first contact to qualified conversation. You will also own For Your Consideration outreach to studios during awards season, a high-visibility initiative that puts Final Draft directly in front of decision-makers at the moment they are most engaged.

There is a strong foundation here. An experienced account manager owns the existing revenue base. The HubSpot infrastructure exists. The customer relationships are real and deep. Your job is to build the system that finds new revenue and generates it more deliberately than we ever have.

Core Responsibilities

Outbound & Campaign Engine

  • Design and execute outbound campaigns across studio, production company, new and education segments using Jeeva, HubSpot, and LinkedIn

  • Build sequences and continually test and improve based on results

  • Run nurture programs for lapsed accounts, closed-lost prospects, and dormant contacts already in the database

  • Monitor Variety, Deadline, and industry news for new productions and emerging companies, and turn that intelligence into outreach

  • Own abandoned cart and inbound inquiry pipelines for new enterprise prospects and own the process to turn them into customers

White Space & Market Expansion

  • Pilot new segments in controlled campaigns before scaling, so we know what works before we commit to it

  • Own the white space analysis that feeds Jeeva targeting, paid ads strategy, and outbound sequencing

Partnerships & Industry Presence

  • Own For Your Consideration ad sales to studios during awards season, coordinating timing, messaging, and follow-through

  • Identify sponsorship and partnership opportunities across industry events, screenwriting community events, and adjacent tools in the production ecosystem

  • Create and plan industry tradeshow representation opportunities for Final Draft at UFVA, PGA, and other industry events in an effort to obtain new business leads

Content & Sales Assets

  • Build sales assets, pitch materials for EDU and new buyers, email workflow assets that slot directly into Jeeva sequences. Assets include case studies, white papers, and other downloadable content to help in the sales process.

  • Audit competitor product pages and surface improvements to the Final Draft enterprise experience in partnership with marketing

Campaign Operations & Reporting

  • Own Jeeva as a growth tool - build workflows, manage sequences, monitor performance, and keep the CRM clean and useful

  • Deliver on weekly activity KPIs including SQLs, Prospecting Emails Sent, Open Rate, New Deals, Meetings Booked, and Closed Deals

  • Partner with Marketing leadership on paid ads strategy, providing the ICP, messaging, and success metrics needed to run campaigns that reinforce the outbound motion

  • Track performance relentlessly and make decisions based on data

Key Qualifications
  • 3 to 6 years of B2B sales, business development, or demand generation experience with a demonstrable track record of building pipeline

  • The ability to learn a niche product fast and translate it into a clear value proposition for a specific buyer - industry fluency in entertainment, media, or SaaS is a genuine advantage

  • HubSpot proficiency - you can build sequences, set up workflows, and read funnel data without waiting for someone else to configure it

  • Strong writing instincts - your outreach needs to sound like a person, not a template, and the difference matters in a relationship-driven industry

  • Analytical enough to know which campaigns are working and honest enough to kill the ones that aren't

  • Self-directed and comfortable in an environment where you are building the process, not following one

How This Role Works

This role sits within the Marketing organization. It is a growth and revenue function - you own new opportunity creation from first contact through to a committed buyer, and you earn commission on the new business you bring in.

Your success is measured on new revenue generated, pipeline created, and market opportunities identified and activated. This is a role for someone who wants to be rewarded directly for what they build.

Why This Role

Final Draft is one of the most recognized software brands in the entertainment industry. Thirty years of trust with studios, writers, and educators has created a foundation that most sales organizations would spend a decade trying to build. This role is the opportunity to do something rare: take a brand with that kind of credibility and build the growth system it has always deserved.

There is real white space here - in gaming, corporate storytelling, international education, and communities like script coordinators and writers rooms that are deeply loyal to Final Draft and underserved by the industry. The person who takes this role will own that opportunity, with the full weight of the brand behind them and direct visibility to Cast & Crew leadership as the function grows.
