What is a screen print assistant?

Screen Print Assistants are professionals who support the screen printing process, often working in print shops or manufacturing environments. Their duties typically include preparing materials, setting up and cleaning screens, mixing inks, loading and unloading items onto printing presses, and ensuring quality control throughout production. They work closely with screen print operators to ensure efficient workflow and help maintain equipment. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to follow instructions are important skills for this role.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a screen print assistant?

A Screen Print Assistant typically supports the lead printer by preparing screens, mixing inks, setting up printing equipment, and loading/unloading garments. Daily duties often include cleaning screens and work areas, checking inventory of supplies, and ensuring each print run meets quality standards. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions precisely, and effective communication with the production team to keep workflow efficient. It's a hands-on position that can be physically demanding but offers valuable experience in print production and opportunities to learn advanced printing techniques.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a screen print assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Screen Print Assistant, you need a keen eye for detail, manual dexterity, basic math skills, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with screen printing presses, inks, drying equipment, and design software like Adobe Illustrator is often required. Strong communication, teamwork, and time management skills help you excel in a fast-paced production environment.
