We made history and now we work to transform the future - for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.
At Ford, the Vehicle Hardware Engineering teams are using Design Thinking & User Experience methods to deliver breakthrough products and services that will delight our customers. Our employees are laser-focused on bringing innovative, exciting, and sustainable ideas to life. From autonomy and electrification to smart mobility technologies, our teams around the world are working together with excitement to make smart vehicles for a smart world.
Ford Motor Company is seeking a highly skilled Fuel System Core Diesel and SCR Technical Expert to join our Powertrain Engineering team. This role serves as the technical authority for diesel fuel system architecture, design, and integration across Ford's diesel engine platforms. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in diesel fuel delivery systems, injection technology, and emissions compliance to support the development of next-generation diesel powertrains that meet performance, durability, fuel economy, and regulatory requirements.
This position collaborates cross-functionally with application design, calibration, validation, manufacturing, and supplier quality teams to ensure robust, cost-effective, and high-performing fuel system solutions from concept through production and field support.
Responsibilities
In this position...
  • Serve as the lead technical expert for diesel fuel system components, including SCR system, injectors, filtration systems, and low-pressure fuel supply systems.
  • Lead TechClub signoff process for all diesel programs through GPDS milestone deliveries
  • Maintain and update DFMEA and Quality documents for Diesel and SCR systems within FEDE
  • Define fuel system architecture and specifications for new diesel engine programs, ensuring alignment with performance, emissions, durability, and cost targets.
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of fuel system-related issues during development, validation, and production, including field and warranty concerns.
  • Collaborate with calibration engineers to optimize fuel injection strategies for combustion efficiency, emissions compliance, and drivability.
  • Provide technical guidance on fuel system compatibility with alternative and renewable diesel fuels, biodiesel blends, and future fuel standards.

What you'll do...
  • Interface with suppliers to evaluate, select, and develop fuel system components, ensuring technical requirements and quality standards are met.
  • Support DVP&T (Design Verification Plan and Report) development and execution for fuel system components and subsystems.
  • Ensure compliance with global emissions regulations (EPA, CARB, Euro standards) as they relate to fuel system design and function.
  • Conduct FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), DFMEA, and reliability assessments for fuel system components.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers within the fuel systems team.
  • Represent Ford in industry forums, standards committees, and supplier technical reviews related to diesel fuel systems.
  • Support cost reduction initiatives while maintaining system performance, durability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve production and assembly-related fuel system issues.

Qualifications
You'll have...
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in diesel fuel system design, development, or integration within the automotive or heavy-duty vehicle industry.
  • Deep technical knowledge of high-pressure common rail (HPCR) fuel injection systems, fuel pumps, injectors, and related hardware.
  • Strong understanding of diesel combustion, emissions systems (SCR, DPF, EGR), and their interaction with fuel system design.
  • Knowledge of global diesel fuel quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven track record of leading root cause analysis and problem-solving for complex technical issues.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and present technical findings to leadership.

Even better, you may have...
  • Ph.D. degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience with alternative diesel fuels (biodiesel, renewable diesel, synthetic fuels).
  • Familiarity with Ford or OEM product development processes (e.g., Global Product Development System, GPDS).
  • Six Sigma or similar quality/reliability certification.
  • Experience working directly with fuel system suppliers (e.g., Bosch, Denso, Delphi/BorgWarner) on component development.
  • Publication or patent history related to diesel fuel system innovation.
  • Experience with fuel system simulation and modeling tools (e.g., GT-Power, AMESim, or similar).
