Job description

We are seeking experienced, hands-on technicians with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to support advanced industrial woodworking machinery.

This role requires up to 100% travel and is ideal for technicians who enjoy working independently in the field, solving complex problems, and working directly with customers.

This is a home-based field service position supporting customers throughout an assigned region. Current priority hiring regions include Northern California, the Pacific Northwest, the Great Lakes, and New England. Candidates located in other areas of the United States are also encouraged to apply. Candidates should reside near a major airport and be comfortable with frequent travel.

Preferred experience includes CNC machinery, PLCs, industrial automation, or similar equipment.



Essential Job Duties

  • Perform installations and start‑ups of SCM machinery at customer and dealer sites
  • Execute preventive maintenance, repairs, and both warranty and billable service interventions
  • Provide operational training to machine end users
  • Operate in compliance with SCM’s technical and safety standards, ensuring precision and quality
  • Represent the company professionally, maintaining personal appearance, punctuality, and clear communication with customers
  • Report commercial opportunities and relevant technical feedback to internal departments
  • Accurately record all activities and times in the CRM system
  • Collaborate with fellow technicians on complex installations or projects
  • Contribute to skill development through continuous learning and knowledge sharing

Qualifications

  • Experience in maintenance, installation, or technical assistance
  • Practical, hands-on knowledge of mechanics, electricity, pneumatics, and automation in an industrial environment
  • Strong communication skills and customer orientation
  • Fluent English required; Italian and Spanish preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across both mechanical and electrical systems required
  • Must be able to independently move and / or lift the heavy machine parts manually (up to 70lb
  • Must be capable of operating powerful equipment, such as forklifts and cranes, to maneuver and lift machine parts for installation
  • Willingness and availability to work nights and weekends for emergency situations, as well as the availability to rotate on call for after hour service
  • Must be able to stand and work on ladder or scissors lift and to crawl in tight spaces to perform installation and repair. May be exposed to heat, grease, and noise on factory site
  • Must be willing and able to travel (up to 70% of time - annual average) by air or automobile to customer site and must possess and maintain a valid US driver's license in good standing
