Job Description Summary
Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB) is seeking applicants for the OUWB Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies/ Corewell Health East (CHE) Scientific Director. This recently expanded position will be responsible for supporting OUWB faculty development, nationally recognized research and innovation, strategic planning, medical and graduate student research, development and growth of graduate and combined degree programs, and collaborations across Oakland University (OU) and with other institutions. In addition, the individual will serve as the CHE Scientific Director, working with the CHE Research Medical Director to support research and research training across Corewell Health (CH). The minimally qualified candidate will have a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree with a history of extramurally funded research as Principal Investigator and experience in graduate education and administrative leadership supporting research. The Associate Dean reports to the OUWB Stephan Sharf Dean and the CH Vice President of Research Administration and will serve on the OUWB Executive Leadership Committee. The individual will be appointed as an OUWB faculty member in the appropriate department with faculty rank commensurate with credentials and will serve as a bioscientific member of the CHE William Beaumont University Hospital (WBUH) Medical Staff.
Responsibilities: Charged with maintaining a robust research culture and graduate training opportunities at OUWB and supporting the CHE research environment, the individual will have multiple responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Cultivating nationally recognized research portfolios for OUWB.
  • Advancing research collaborations with CH, OU, and other institutions.
  • Assisting in development and implementation of OUWB research strategic plans.
  • Supporting OUWB faculty recruitment, career development, and retention.
  • Assisting leadership in evaluation of investigator and department/division research performance.
  • Working with OUWB faculty and leadership and with other OU colleges and schools to facilitate graduate student training opportunities, as well as the development and implementation of graduate degree and combined degree programs.
  • Facilitating access for all OUWB faculty and trainees to research infrastructure, services, and resources.
  • Managing the OUWB research office and research funds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
PhD or MD with a minimum of 10 years post-doctoral research experience, history of extramural funding, and experience in graduate education and administrative leadership.
