Job description

Stanford Rebele Data Science Internship, Summer 2026

At Hearst Newspapers, data drives the way we engage millions of readers across our publications. We're looking for an ambitious intern to join our Data and Insights team, where you'll tackle real-world challenges in digital media, audience growth, and storytelling at scale.

This internship is paid through the Stanford Rebele Internship Program. To be eligible, candidates must be current Stanford University students.ย

This internship will run from June 8 to August 14, 2026, and can be based in either California or New York.

This is an opportunity to shape strategic decisions by translating complex data into powerful insights. You'll work cross-functionally with newsrooms, marketing, and audience teams to help the business understand how audience development drives outcomes for the business. You'll help to answer questions like, "Do TikTok followers views lead to business outcomes", "What platforms attract our most valuable audiences?", "How do our users engage and interact with our investigative data-journalism projects, and does that engagement ultimately result in business outcomes".

You will work directly with both technical and non-technical users to translate business questions into data problems that our data can solve. That work will involve building ad-hoc reports and dashboards, conducting exploratory analysis, and modeling data to help solve business problems.

Working within the larger Data and Insights team, you will be collaborating with other analysts, data scientists, and data engineers to understand how a business intelligence team functions in a media organization as you learn to hone your data skills.

What You'll Gain
Hands-on experience working with BigQuery, Python, and large-scale datasets.
A front-row seat to the inner workings of a modern media company at the intersection of data and journalism.
The opportunity to present your findings to senior stakeholders - your insights will directly influence strategy.

Qualifications
Pursuing a degree in math, engineering, statistics, econometrics, data science or related quantitative field at Stanford University
Prior experience or internship with data analysis (as an analyst, in analytics, business intelligence or similar)
Familiarity with SQL (BigQuery preferred)
Familiarity with Python for data analysis
Strong verbal and written communication, especially when presenting to non-technical stakeholders

This is your chance to leave a mark on one of the largest digital news organizations in the country. If you're excited about data, media, and real-world impact, we'd love to hear from you!
