Job description

ATTENTION MID-YEAR GRADUATES - Science Teacher 9-12
East Sac Community Schools is seeking qualified applicants to serve as a full time High School Science Teacherย for the 2nd semester of the 2026-27 school year.ย  This will be for grades 9-12.ย  Specific teaching assignments and classes will be discussed after learning the candidatesย preferences and strengths and licensure areas.ย This position is open until filled.ย  Applicants who apply early will be given preference.ย  Interviews will be conducted as quality applicants apply.ย ย 
East County CSD is located in beautiful Northwest/North Central Iowa and comprised of Sac City, Lake View, Wall Lake, and Auburn.ย  The 7-12 building is located in Lake View.ย  Our communities offer many recreational areas including Black Hawk Lake along with several thriving small businesses and restaurants.ย  We are located right south of Hwy 20 and are 1 hour from Sioux City, 1 hour and 20 minutes from the Okoboji Great Lakes, and two hours from Des Moines, Cedar Falls, and Omaha.ย  The successful candidate will be supported by the HS Principal, an Assistant Principal, Veteran Science Teachers from within the district, a mentoring program, the Superintendent, and the East Sac County Board of Education.ย  Salary and benefits include a competitive starting wage based on degree and experience, IPERS, health insurance, and paid vacation.

Position Purposeย 

- ย Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics; develops students skills and abilities in scientific methods and problem-solving, as well as an understanding of the application of science in the solution of practical problems.ย 

Essential Functionsย 

- ย Teaches knowledge and skills in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, physiology, chemistry, and physics, in accordance with district curriculum.ย 

- ย Promotes critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.ย 

- ย Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.ย 

- ย Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.ย 

- ย Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of science to everyday existence, including scientific research projects, demonstrations, experiments, and laboratory activities.ย 

- ย Instructs students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment, chemicals, and plant and animal life.ย 

- ย Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.ย 

- ย Maintains familiarity with district and Connecticut State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.ย 

- ย Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.ย 

- ย Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.ย 

- ย Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.ย 

- ย Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.ย 

- ย Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.ย 

- ย Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment, maintains inventory records, and ensures equipment is in good working order.ย

- ย Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.ย

- ย Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.ย 

- ย Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.ย 

- ย Ability to organize and coordinate work.ย 

- ย Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.ย 

- ย Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.ย 

- ย Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.ย
