This position is in Santa Rosa, in the heart of California's beautiful wine country, is the corporate headquarters of Keysight, home to many product development R&D labs. The Digital and Photonics R&D team in Santa Rosa develops and produces the world's highest performance oscilloscopes.
You will work in close collaboration with a diverse multi-functional team of engineers, scientists, and researchers around the globe to meet the communications electronics measurement challenges of today and tomorrow. Giving customers insight into developing digital communication and Internet infrastructure signals and devices is our focus. Responsibilities
Lead and develop a team of multi-talented software engineers to invent, design, and develop new, world-leading time-domain measurement instruments, working with a multi-functional, global team to deliver instrument software integrated into hardware to develop complete instruments from concept to full manufacturing shipment.
  • Quickly learn the software architecture of sampling oscilloscopes, taking ownership to imagine, define, plan and execute one or more software releases per year to deliver new oscilloscope products and/or measurement features to market. Provide customer-valued performance, robustness, and flexibility within cost, schedule and scope constraints.
  • Lead your software team through the full software product development lifecycle. Work to balance customer-facing requirements with pragmatic technical judgement to align on scope, investment cost, and schedule. Learn and follow the Keysight product lifecycle, respecting standards of business conduct and export control restrictions.
  • Execute quality software development processes with product backlog definition, sprint planning, feature & issue prioritization, QA, and release deployment. Practice secure SW development. Manage technical debt (OS refresh/toolchain evolution/architecture refactoring) with customer-facing scope in each release plan.
  • Collaborate with sampling scope, OF NPI and DP-COE leadership team. Sampling scopes is a fast-paced, dynamic team where hardware and software operating managers who collaborate to efficiently complete multiple synergistic new product introductions. We also work extensively with customer-facing in-bound marketing, field sales force, Keysight Labs, and leaders of our large global manufacturing organization.
  • Grow engineering talent. Evaluate, coach and reward to maximize individual performance and support the success of our sampling R&D teams
  • Support customers. Present technical information of value to customers, occasionally visiting global customer sites to present products and help customers with integration in a dynamically changing technology environment, continuous learning is expected and supported throughout your career.

Qualifications
This position requires both significant software development knowledge and electronic product knowledge to make timely design and execution path risk tradeoff decisions. Relevant technical background of successful candidate will most likely be in software engineering with significant project execution experience.
Open to individuals with a track record of leading engineering teams to deliver projects involving new software integrated with new hardware design within time/cost/scope constraints. Educational background most likely includes a BS or MS degree in an Engineering major including strong skills in software development with 2-4 years of related project leadership experience to draw upon.
  • One or more examples of software project leadership. Ability to discuss performance, cost, and schedule tradeoffs, arrive at an aligned execution plan & track progress. One or more examples of how changes to plan were handled.
  • Demonstrated success in leading software development projects with skill in backlog management, sprint planning, and progress tracking. Knowledge of SW quality practices. Evidence of excellent leadership of triage & troubleshooting, and issue resolution skills.
  • Enjoy working with a diversemulti-functional team to deliver prototype designs into volume manufacturing on a global scale. Evidence of talent development skills & optimizing team productivity and creativity
  • Demonstration of excellent communication and teamwork skills, enjoying working with a diverse and global team.
    Ability to persuasively advocate for resources to remove roadblocks to speed project execution
  • Strong problem-solving and quantitative data analysis skills. Evidence of experience with budget management, factory cost versus net profit versus product scope tradeoffs in a quantitative data-driven analysis.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and lead a team through change.
  • Excellent time management, and ability to work independently in supportive team of available mentors
  • Significant pluses:
    • Evidence of ability to lead strategic discussions, for example future roadmap development. Evidence of ability to make crisp and accurate tactical decisions with incomplete/ambiguous information, and then articulately explain & recruit support.
    • Ability to quickly learn to correctly set up optical and electrical measuring instruments to demonstrate and test the desired measurement. Enjoys hands-on exploration to find correct instrument setups to evaluate your software/hardware integration quality
    • Evidence of handling new IP protection, and export control requirements. Ability to persuasively represent technical expertise to end-use customers is highly desired
    • Specific examples of high-risk tradeoff decisions and ability to explain the method by which the decision was made
