Job description

HP101 SOHO Science Operations Coordinator
We are seeking an individual who will serve as the SOHO Science Operations Coordinator, supporting the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) Experimenter's Operation Facility (EOF) on-site at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD.
Duties include:
  • Supporting instrument science planning and commanding
  • Monitoring instrument health and safety
  • Overseeing data production processing
  • Providing general backup support to the instrument team.

The position is 30 hours per week, fully on-site, and is ideally suited for a college undergraduate who is interested in, and able to take on the responsibilities required to obtain, hands-on experience supporting an operating NASA space mission.
We are seeking a candidate who is a fast learner, a problem-solver, and a reliable team-player who can also be trusted to work independently. Previous experience working in a spacecraft operations environment is a strong plus.
Since this position involves working in an operational environment (24 x 7 x 365), it requires occasional after hours (weekends/evenings) on call duty to support operations. Therefore, the candidate is required to reside within the Washington, DC/Baltimore metro area, with ready access to car transport, within a commuting distance of 30 minutes or less.
Required Experience:
  • High School Diploma.
  • At least one year of experience using Mac OS and/or Linux computer systems.
  • Proven work ethic; demonstrated reliability and responsibility.
  • Capable of remaining calm under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to confidently determine priorities.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to precisely follow detailed instructions and successfully complete tasks.
  • Capable of developing meticulous, error-free, reports.
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (LPR) required, with US residency for the past 3 consecutive years.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 Investigation through NASA.
