As a Technical Editor and Writer Level 3/4 at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. What you'll get to do:

  • Write and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.

  • Develop subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.

  • Take strong ownership to drive documentation through process from inputs to final distribution.

  • Lead preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.

  • Conduct quality review of materials.

  • Develop new concepts, techniques, and standards.

  • Communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.

  • Support implementation to a team of technical writers and text processors.

  • Serve as consultant to management and special external spokesperson for the organization on major matters pertaining to its policies, plans, and objectives.

  • Present to internal and external stakeholders at reviews/documentation conferences.

  • Develop agendas and captures minutes to assess documentation impacts.

This requisition may be filled at Technical Editor and Writer Level 3 or a Technical Editor and Writer Level 4 based on qualifications listed below:

Basic Qualifications for Technical Editor and Writer Level 3:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of experience or Master's Degree with 3 years of experience. Additional 4 years' experience may be accepted in lieu of a Degree.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Experience with publishing software.

  • Experience with vector graphic designing applications (Illustrator preferred).

  • Ability to meet deadlines and quality standards

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Technical Editor and Writer Level 4:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 8 years of experience or Master's Degree with 6 years of experience. Additional 4 years' experience may be accepted in lieu of a Degree.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Experience with publishing software.

  • Experience with vector graphic designing applications (Illustrator preferred).

  • Ability to meet deadlines and quality standards

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with military documentation standards and style guides

  • Experience with SharePoint, Confluence, and/or JIRA

  • Experience with writing procedures and technical manuals that describe installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment

  • Understanding of XML and other authoring languages

  • Experience with documentation authoring/publishing tools

  • Familiarity with database structures to support development of interactive electronic technical manuals (IETMs)

  • Active Secret Security Clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $73,900.00 - $128,400.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $92,200.00 - $160,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
