Rampant is an Equal Opportunity Employer.  Job Summary We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to support and advance our IT infrastructure, with a primary focus on RHEL-based Linux systems and a strategic transition to Kubernetes-based containerization. This role supports a dynamic R&D lab environment that integrates closely with the broader enterprise. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and evolving both Linux and Kubernetes platforms, as well as related infrastructure. You will also act as a technical advisor and liaison to lab leadership and project teams, helping bridge the gap between technical execution and strategic goals. Strong communication skills—both verbal and written—are essential for effectively engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Education and Experience • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a technical discipline is desired, with eight (8) years of relevant experience • Five (5) years of relevant experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree Required Skills • Strong expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments with at least a foundational understanding of Kubernetes • Extensive experience in installing, configuring, securing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large-scale physical and/or virtual Linux environments • Advanced troubleshooting skills across Linux, as well as networking and storage technologies • Proficient with infrastructure automation tools such as Puppet or Ansible • Experience using version control systems, particularly Git and GitLab • Proficient in scripting with Bash and/or Python • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment • Ability to clearly communicate business and technical needs to both technical and non-technical audiences • Excellent oral communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of a contract or project team • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and actionable documentation, including recommendations, technical assessments, and integration plans • A self-starter with a proactive, strategic mindset • Demonstrates professionalism, patience, and diplomacy in interactions with colleagues, customers, and partners Desired Skills • Experience in managing teams or direct reports on past projects or within previous organizations • Knowledge of Information Assurance (IA) principles and organizational confidentiality requirements • Experience with VMware administration • Familiarity with GPFS/IBM ESS • Exposure to cloud environments and architectures, particularly under Kubernetes orchestration • General understanding of IP networking, including switching, subnets, and VLANs • Basic knowledge of hardware infrastructure, including servers, blade chassis, fiber channel, and SANs Certifications and Credentials • Active TS/SCI w/ Poly required • IA certification; i.e. Security+ CE or greater Compensation Range: 120k-200k depending on education and experience. *All duties and responsibilities are not captured in this job description.
