Status: Full Time

Hours: Teaching is normally scheduled between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm, Monday - Friday. In accordance with the Collective Agreement, workload may be up to 44 hours per week.

Home Campus: Fennell

Rate of Pay: 77,153 - 133,752 per year

Start Rate: Upon hire, Human Resources will conduct a rate calculation based on completed education and work experience to determine the step within the range as per the Collective Agreement.

Job Summary

Mohawk College seeks a qualified candidate for a full-time professor position who will be instructed into various programs in our Computer Science and Information Technology programs, as well as other advanced diploma and other degree programs.

  • Possess a student centric attitude toward the instruction of students at both an introductory and senior level and the ability and interest in mentoring students.
  • Possess the ability to teach a variety of undergraduate computer science classes including courses in Python, Java, Programming in .NET, Server-side web programming, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Data Management for Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things.
  • Can teach a variety of Cybersecurity concepts including Cyber Security Asset security, auditing, security strategy, identity and access management and software development.ย  Can instruct students on security efficacy frameworks in the present industry.
  • Depending on business needs, it may also teach foundational programming to other networking and software programs within the Computer Science portfolio.
  • Ability and interest in developing, maintaining, and enhancing course materials to remain current with future industry standards.

Applicants with both industry and academic experience in Computer Science, particularly in AI tools and technologies, are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D is preferred.

  • Teaching the theory and practical application components.
  • Creating a positive and innovative student-centered learning environment in both the classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Using a variety of teaching strategies is most appropriate for the curriculum for both postsecondary and apprentices.
  • Using a variety of techniques to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
  • Evaluating, revising and developing learning resources within the program.
  • Enhancing educational delivery and experiences through the use of technology to facilitate student learning.
  • Applying college values and philosophy in work activities and interaction with others.
  • Using the college's learning management system to present curriculum, testing and online activities.
  • Delivering a mix of courses that are online, hybrid, and in person depending upon operational work assignments.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • The incumbent should have a Master's Degree/Ph.D in Computer Science (Ph.D preferred).
  • Recognized industry certifications in networking, cloud computing AI and/or security.
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level (college or university) is strongly preferred.
  • Five or more years of industry experience (non-academic) is preferred.
  • Experience in conducting independent research is preferred, and there will be an expectation in the role to develop and engage in original research.
  • Candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages.
  • Learner-centred approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
