The PIC Production Technician is responsible for specialized animal care and technical reporting, along with additional husbandry tasks to ensure the well-being of the animals.  These tasks require technical knowledge and expertise gained through an animal sciences background to ensure ongoing scientific research and animal breeding can be successfully conducted.  Education background will usually be in veterinary sciences, zoology, or equivalent sciences. This role is conducted in direct support of the efforts of our agricultural sciences professionals and our laboratory research. Starting Pay - $20 CAD

  • Daily animal husbandry tasks in support of breeding and scientific research including:
    • Pig placement
    • Pig healthcare and medication, including basic veterinary procedures
    • Feeding management
    • Environment, water, and ventilation management
    • Off Testing
    • Collection of blood samples
    • Production records keeping
  • Maintain accurate and timely production information and records as required by the supervising agricultural sciences professionals
  • Assist in moving animals and maintaining efficient animal flows
  • Complete all tasks pertaining to farrowing, including fostering, weaning, and processing litters
  • Treat sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals by injection, oral application, and/or other methods as required
  • Maintain facility biosecurity, including sanitizing and washing multiple areas using high pressure equipment, as well as office cleanliness and laundry duties to avoid contamination or animals and research samples
  • Flexibility with a willingness to change plans according to the direction of farm leadership
  • Adhere to the Company's animal care policies and procedures including: providing a physical environment that meets the animal's needs, providing access to adequate water and high quality feed, providing humane treatment of the animals, providing identification and appropriate treatment of animals in need of health care and following the guidelines for euthanasia
  • Read and understand the company's emergency notification process and how it applies to their specific worksite
  • Abide by all company policies, procedures and guidelines as directed by farm leadership, including but not limited to:
    • The Company's Safety Program, understanding all safety requirements of the job and performing the job in compliance with those safety requirements
    • The Company's bio-security protocols
    • All environmental laws and procedures as well as report all environmental issues immediately to supervisor
  • Work as a team player by accomplishing daily department work requirements and farm goals
Requisitos

  • Previous livestock handling, preferred
  • Ability to work both autonomously and within a team environment
  • Ability to follow instructions and deal with standardized situations
  • Ability to work in and maintain performance expectations in a fast-paced environment
  • Work requires attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Minimal, if any travel
