Who are we hiring?
We are seeking a highly experienced, innovative, and collaborative Director of Sports Science to lead the club's applied sports science strategy. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining an in-house data-infrastructure alongside side the organizations data analytics department. They will primarily focus on the integration of data, technology, and evidence-based practice into daily performance operations to optimize player health, readiness, and availability across the season. The Director of Sports Science will report to, and work in collaboration with the Senior Director of Player Health and Performance, as well as coaching, performance, medical, and analytics staff to support training design, injury risk reduction, rehabilitation, and return-to-play decision-making with the goal of maximizing team performance.
What will you do?
  • Continue to develop and maintain the organizations in-house data infrastructure.
  • Lead, design, and oversee the club's applied sports science program in alignment with team performance objectives, with the number one being to maximize individual and team performance on the field.
  • Develop and manage athlete monitoring systems in collaboration with Director of Performance (GPS, wellness, workload, strength and power metrics) to inform training, recovery, and competition readiness.
  • Translate data into clear, actionable insights for coaches, performance staff, medical staff, and leadership.
  • Partner with the Head Coach and Performance department to support evidence-based training periodization and match preparation.
  • Collaborate with medical and rehabilitation staff on injury risk management, data informed return-to-play protocols, and load progression strategies.
  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of sports science technologies and data platforms.
  • Establish best practices for data collection, quality control, reporting, and data governance.
  • Mentor and support sports science, and internship staff as applicable.
  • Contribute to long-term athlete development strategies and organizational performance standards.
  • Stay current with emerging research, trends, and applied best practices in elite sport performance and sports science.
  • Assist with performance-related reporting and presentations to technical leadership and ownership, as required.

What do you need to succeed?
Required
  • Master's degree or higher in Sports Science, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of applied sports science experience in elite or professional sport environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in athlete monitoring, workload management, and performance data analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with SQL database management, programming and data analysis languages such as R and Python, and advanced proficiency in Power BI for data visualization, reporting, and performance analytics.
  • Proficiency with GPS systems, athlete management systems (AMS), and performance testing technologies.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex data clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience collaborating with coaches, performance, and medical teams in a high-performance setting.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
  • Must possess or be in pursuit of their CPSS (NSCA)

Preferred
  • PhD in a related field or equivalent applied experience.
  • Experience working in professional soccer or women's high-performance sport.
  • Leadership or management experience overseeing staff or cross-functional projects.
  • Familiarity with injury prevention models, return-to-play frameworks, and integrated performance teams.

Special requirements of the Job:
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, inclusive of weekends, nights (event evenings & overnight operation shifts) and holidays.
  • Ability to monitor company communications and respond to time-sensitive matters with senior executives.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the venue for extended periods of time, often during events or facility setup and breakdown.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed for event setup, equipment management, or assisting with operational needs.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation.
  • Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions.
  • Ability to work outdoors continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions
