What is a school suspension monitor?

School suspension monitors are staff members responsible for supervising students who have been suspended in-school as a disciplinary measure. They ensure that students are following school policies, maintain a safe and respectful environment, and support students in completing assigned schoolwork during their suspension period. Suspension monitors may also communicate with teachers and administrators to track student progress and behavior, and sometimes provide guidance to help students reflect on their actions. Their goal is to help students successfully reintegrate into the regular classroom setting after their suspension.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a school suspension monitor and how do they support students during in-school suspension?

A School Suspension Monitor typically supervises students assigned to in-school suspension, ensuring a safe and structured environment. Daily responsibilities include monitoring student behavior, distributing and collecting classwork from teachers, and maintaining detailed records of attendance and progress. They also provide guidance to help students reflect on their behavior and encourage positive choices, often collaborating with counselors or administrators. The role requires strong communication and consistency, as the monitor acts as a bridge between students, teachers, and school staff while supporting students’ academic and behavioral growth.
