Job Description
Position: Security 
Duties and Responsibilities
The following is an outline and overview of the basic duties and responsibilities of the Security Officer position. It is a broad overview and is not intended to be all inclusive.











  • You are an employee of the school district and shall represent the Board of Education in a competent, confidential and professional manner during your work day with all your interactions with parents, students, teachers, other staff, administrators, visitors and community.
  • You shall follow all prescribed procedures regarding school lockdowns, including communication procedures with the Solon Police Department
  • You shall perform all legal directives, verbal or written, issued by the Administration or Security Director as long as your primary responsibilities and duties are not compromised. You shall randomly patrol areas of the building including hallways, cafeteria and appropriate rest rooms inspecting all the doors, windows and security equipment always being subject to recall to screen any visitors requesting entry into the building.
  • It is your responsibility to learn and become familiar with the Solon Schools Emergency Plan and any applicable crisis plan for your assigned building. You will treat all information pertaining to the plan or response as confidential.  The Emergency Plan is a document that will continually be developed, revised and updated. You will assist and participate in all practice drills noting any issues that need to be addressed.
  • You shall be attentive in your duties and report any issues, problems, malfunction, unsafe conditions and issues that are contrary to the security protocols for your assigned building by the end of day. Notification shall be made to the building principal and Security Director via email. Any issues should be noted on your daily log. Issues that could create a substantial risk to the health or safety of a student, staff member, visitor or parent shall be relayed to the above individuals immediately.
  • You shall monitor activities (ex. assemblies and PTA meetings) and maintain high visibility and contact with the students, staff, parents and public.
  • You shall be responsible for checking all visitors, unauthorized individuals (and student ID's if they are issued and they are a late arrival) and take the appropriate action as may be necessary. If necessary you are to contact the Solon Police Department to handle disruptive individuals. All individuals shall sign into the building.
  • You shall learn the layout of your assigned building noting location of emergency exits, AED's, cameras and equipment rooms.
  • You shall prepare any reports as are necessary or requested by the Security Director or the Administration.
  • You shall follow all of the District policies, regulations and procedures including wearing any required clothing while maintaining good personal hygiene.
  • You shall take and pass any required training that may be deemed necessary to perform your duties.
