What are School RBTs?

School RBTs, or Registered Behavior Technicians, are professionals who work in educational settings to support students with behavioral challenges, particularly those with autism or related disorders. They implement behavior intervention plans designed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and help students develop social, communication, and academic skills. School RBTs collect data on student progress, collaborate with teachers and other staff, and ensure that interventions are carried out consistently. Their work helps create a positive learning environment and promotes student success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a School Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), and why are they important?

To thrive as a School Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), you need a solid understanding of applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles, data collection, and an active RBT certification. Familiarity with behavior intervention plans, data management software, and regular supervision by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is typical. Strong communication, patience, and the ability to build rapport with students and staff are key soft skills. These skills and qualities are vital for effectively supporting students with behavioral needs and ensuring the successful implementation of individualized interventions in school settings.

How does a School Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) typically collaborate with teachers and other support staff?

A School RBT works closely with teachers, special education staff, and school psychologists to implement behavior intervention plans for students. Collaboration often involves regular meetings to review student progress, adjust strategies, and ensure consistent support across classroom and non-classroom settings. RBTs also provide real-time feedback to educators and may assist in training staff on behavioral techniques, fostering a team approach to student success.

Job description

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

Covelo Group seeks a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to join our Educational Services team. If you're looking for a rewarding career meeting the unique needs of students in a school setting, this could be your role.

Covelo Group's expert recruiters connect qualified allied health professionals with school districts across the U.S. We don't place our applicants in just any job โ€“ we partner with you to match you with the right position to match your skills and advance your unique career goals.

As a school behavior tech, you will support teachers and administrators by working with students with behavior challenges in a classroom setting. In this role, you may work one-on-one with a student in a mainstream classroom. Or, you may be asked to support multiple students in a separate classroom designed to meet their unique educational needs.

Your students will vary in age from grades K-12, as determined by the school district. Their behavior challenges may range from mild to moderate to severe. The level of intervention and support they require will be determined case-by-case, according to the parameters outlined in their individual education plans (IEP) or 504 plans.

Your primary responsibilities will involve helping students learn to manage their behavior and optimize their learning experience. You will also play an important role in preserving a positive learning environment for their classmates and teachers. You will help students meet individual behavioral and academic goals by encouraging positive behaviors and setting appropriate boundaries. Teachers and administrators will also rely on you to observe and report students' progress toward the goals outlined in their IEP/504 plans.

We are looking for a versatile RBT willing to collaborate with a diverse group of students, educators, and administrators. Our ideal applicant is compassionate, steady under pressure, and capable of meeting the needs of students who require significant behavioral support.
