Teacher/Professional - Secondary - AVID School Coordinator

ROLE AND PURPOSE:
  • The role of the AVID Coordinator is to support AVID implementation on the secondary campus.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.

Experience:
  • Minimum of three years successful teaching experience. Prior experience as an AVID teacher preferred.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
  • Assist with the development of a vertically aligned AVID Elective curriculum.
  • Ensure consistent tutorial practices throughout all AVID classrooms.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and AVID Elective teachers to ensure appropriately rigorous instruction.

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE
  • Ensure a college-ready/college-going culture is communicated throughout the school.

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT
  • Utilize AVID Data and Certification documents to monitor progress and improve AVID implementation.
  • Facilitate monthly AVID Site Team meetings.

ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
  • Create an annual AVID site budget.
  • Prepare and submit monthly Tutor Payment Authorizations.
  • Ensure AVID is included in the annual school improvement plan.

STUDENT MANAGEMENT
  • Coordinate student recruitment and enrollment in AVID.
  • Ensure all AVID students participate in annual college testing.
  • Facilitate planning and scheduling of AVID college visits and field trips.

SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
  • Plan and coordinate parent/community workshops throughout the year.
  • Ensure ongoing collaboration with district AVID sites and feeder schools.
  • Maintain relevant communications with AVID Center and AVID District Director.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
  • Ensure that AVID Elective teachers, academic teachers and campus staff attend AVID Summer Institute and/or AVID Path trainings.
  • Design and deliver campus-based professional learning opportunities.
  • Attend monthly AVID Coordinator meetings.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor and coach AVID tutors to sustain effective tutorials.

MISCELLANEOUS
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
