Job description

Position Summary
The Kitchen Cook is an essential member of the Kitchen team, responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals in accordance with established menu, dietary guidelines, and dietary restrictions. Working under the direction of the Kitchen Manager-and taking initiative in their absence-the Cook ensures that all food is prepared safely, efficiently, and in compliance with federal, state, local health regulations, and contractual requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist in ensuring all health, safety, and sanitation regulations are consistently followed.
  • Support the Kitchen Manager in maintaining a deep cleaning schedule to ensure a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
  • Help coordinate the daily cleaning and upkeep of kitchen equipment, tools, and food prep areas.
  • Provide guidance and support to kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking techniques, and proper sanitation practices.
  • Prepare all food items as directed, ensuring quality, portion control, and presentation standards are met.
  • Create and follow standardized recipes and plating guidelines to maintain consistency in taste and appearance.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, adhering to proper usage protocols.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and communicate supply needs to the Kitchen Manager in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all food items are properly labeled, stored, and rotated according to food safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Uphold all local, state, and federal food safety standards and production codes.
  • Assist with onboarding and ongoing training of new and current kitchen staff as directed by the Kitchen Manager.
  • Support with meal deliveries or distribution when needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a high-volume commercial or institutional kitchen.
  • Clean driving record a\nd reliable transportation
  • Valid Food Handler's Card Ability to work well in a team setting and provide leadership support when needed.
  • Able to multitask, take initiative, and work independently when necessary.
  • Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to work in a team. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
