Job description

Summary
Provides leadership and support to ensure that all school nurses, clinic assistants, and other personnel are appropriately trained to provide optimum health services for all students; Provides health services to all students
Essential Duties
  • Assists the cluster schools in understanding and managing health issues for students
  • Consults with school staff, clinic assistants, parents, and students regarding students with health issues
  • Serves as a consultant to local school clinic assistants and clinic assistant substitutes; Ensures clinic workers are appropriately trained and follow approved clinic protocol including the supervision of medication for students as appropriate
  • Acts as a liaison between cluster schools, health department, physicians, and other health agencies to coordinate care for students
  • Trains school staff, as appropriate, to perform required procedures; Provides staff development training on health-related subjects
  • Provides emergency crisis nursing care for ill or injured
  • Provides health counseling to students, parents, and staff
  • Assists schools with immunization requirements and health screenings for students
  • Works in concert with the cluster nurses to meet the health care needs of all students
  • Recommends provisions for a healthy and safe school environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree
Certification/Licensure
Current Georgia RN license, CPR, and First Aid Certification required
Experience Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of successful nursing experience with at least 1 year working with a pediatric population required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of student health programs and issues
  • Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively with District personnel, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
