Job description

Position: Substitute-School Bus Driver
General Duties:
Operate school bus during all types of weather conditions safely while transporting students and other authorized persons "to and from" school, special education, vocational, and extracurricular trips authorized by the local school system.
Specific Duties:
  • Successfully complete school bus driver training program and courses as prescribed by the state and local board of education.
  • Drive bus and transport students to and from school and other extracurricular activities approved by local school system.
  • Operate the school bus in a safe and effective manner.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post- trip of school bus and special equipment.
  • Must conduct emergency evacuation drills required by local school system (2 Per Year)
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with school staff and the public.
  • Complete required route and student forms and submit to transportation department on a timely basis.
  • Provide maximum safety to passenger during route and while loading and unloading.
  • Maintain orderly conduct of student passengers. Report unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Operate school bus in accordance to the laws of the State of Georgia and policies set forth by the local board.
  • Attend all in service safety meetings required by the State and local system.
  • Deliver bus to shop as directed by monthly schedule for the bus monthly inspection.
  • Clean and maintain service of the bus which includes sweeping, washing, and fueling. Report damage or needed repairs.
  • Maintain routes and schedules as planned by the local school system.
  • Report any hazards along the existing route to appropriate school official.
  • Required to report all accidents or incidents as well as any damage done to school bus or property.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the local school system.

Qualifications:
  • The minimum age to qualify as a school bus driver is eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Responsible work history, dependability, punctuality and attendance is essential for this position.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a Valid Commercial Driver's license Class A or B with a S and P endorsement.
  • Must pass a pre-employment and annual physical exam approved by the State Board of Education. (DE Form 0514)
  • Must pass a pre-employment and random drug test
  • Must have a clean driving record
