Employee Benefits Summary
Minimum Requirements
Meet all licensing requirements of the Motor Vehicle Administration for Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Meet all the requirements of COMAR l3A.06.07 (PUPIL TRANSPORTATION) for School Bus Driver.
Have not more than two current points on the driving record, and have a satisfactory past driving record.
Successfully completed the Maryland State Department of Education required pre-service instruction.
Have no evidence of a criminal record which makes the individual unfit for employment as a school bus driver.
Current certified school bus driver with WCPS.
Must be 21 years of age to operate a school bus.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Satisfactorily completes the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Administration physical examination for school bus drivers.
Has the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED.
Demonstrate an aptitude and competence for the position of School Bus Driver.
Provide acceptable references as to one's ability to work with and supervise children.
Role Responsibilities
Responsible for pupil accountability.
Obey all traffic laws.
Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
Maintain discipline when students are on bus.
Report undisciplined students to the proper authority.
Keep assigned bus clean.
Keep to assigned schedule.
Perform a pre-trip inspection prior to each route, checking for mechanical defects.
Perform a post-trip inspection following each route, checking for damage, students and belongings.
Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
Discharge students only at authorized stops.
Exercise responsible leadership when on school trips.
Transport only authorized students.
Report all accidents immediately and complete required reports.
Enforce rules and regulations for students riding the bus.
Operate the bus within the guidelines as outlined in the WCPS School Bus Drivers Handbook.
Present their assigned bus for bus inspection meeting all requirements as established by the Transportation Department.
Use all safety equipment properly including use of driver's seat belt and shoulder harness.
Routes may be adjusted to meet daily operational needs
Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
Perform other school bus related duties as may be assigned.

Will be subjected to loud noises, dusts, fumes, hot and cold outdoor temperatures and related weather conditions.
