Job description

Under immediate supervision, assists students riding on school buses en route to and from school; and performs related duties as required. The Bus Aide assists in providing safe transportation to help students enjoy the complete educational program of The SEED School of Maryland (SEED MD). To accomplish these tasks, the Bus Aide works closely with the staff and administration of SEED MD.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists students entering and exiting school buses staff to and from a variety of school sites/field trips.
  • Attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring safety of passengers
  • Assists in providing safe transportation to help students enjoy the complete educational program of SEED MD.
  • maintains order and discipline on school buses
  • Assist bus drivers in supervising students
  • Assist the driver in the proper loading and unloading of students
  • Refers misbehaved students to the school transportation coordinator for disciplinary action
  • Supervises and assist students in transit
  • Knows the proper use of securing devices for safety restraints, wheelchairs and seat belts
  • Fastens various types of seat belts around students as a precautionary measure
  • lifts physically disabled students onto and off school buses
  • Attends meetings, programs and in-service trainings as assigned
  • Notifies appropriate individuals of any delays in scheduled route
  • Assist bus drivers in resolving problems with students
  • Completes routing lists and related transportation forms for the purpose of communicating sequence of bus stops
  • Reports any concerns regarding students to the driver and to the Transportation Coordinator

  • Occupy a seat that provides the best opportunity for student supervision while the bus is in motion

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • A valid State of Maryland Driver's License
  • Willingness and ability to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Previous experience in student transportation is preferred
  • CPR certification preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Medium Work: Exerting twenty (20) to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, or ten (10) to fifteen (15) pounds of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for Light Work. While performing the duties of this job, some standing, walking, sitting, bending and carrying of light items such as books and papers is required. Requires prolonged sitting; requires stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, reaching, climbing and balancing; must work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions; can work in and around dust, fumes and odors; may require extensive travel hours

The work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as classrooms, offices, meeting and training rooms, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
