Job description

Job Title: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

Location: Kern County, CA


Position Summary

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct behavioral intervention services to individuals with developmental disabilities in a Community Care Home (CCH) setting. Services are delivered under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and in accordance with individualized behavior intervention plans.

The RBT supports implementation of person-centered services while ensuring compliance with applicable standards set by the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Title 17 regulations, and applicable guidelines from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.


Key Responsibilities

Behavioral Intervention

  • Implement individualized behavior intervention plans as developed by the supervising BCBA
  • Utilize evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques to support skill acquisition and behavior reduction
  • Provide 1:1 and/or group behavioral support in the residential setting
  • Collect and record accurate data on target behaviors and progress

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete session notes and data collection records
  • Ensure documentation meets DDS and regulatory requirements
  • Assist in maintaining audit-ready records for compliance reviews
  • Follow all confidentiality standards, including HIPAA requirements

Resident Support

  • Support individuals in developing daily living, communication, and social skills
  • Assist with implementation of Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and behavior goals
  • Promote a safe, structured, and positive environment
  • Respond appropriately to challenging behaviors using approved intervention strategies

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the BCBA, Administrator, and interdisciplinary team
  • Participate in team meetings and trainings as required
  • Communicate progress, concerns, and observations effectively to supervisors

Professional Standards

  • Maintain active RBT certification in good standing
  • Adhere to the RBT Ethics Code and all applicable professional standards
  • Complete ongoing training and supervision requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Active RBT certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (required)
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred)
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
  • Ability to pass background check and meet all state and licensing requirements
