Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The Scene Shop Student Technical Assistant supports the daily operations of the Dodge College Scene Shop and Warehouse. 
Working under the direction of the Scene Shop Supervisor, this position assists with shop organization, equipment maintenance, facility upkeep, inventory management, and student project support. Student assistants play an important role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and creative workspace while gaining hands-on experience with scenic construction, shop operations, and production support.
Responsibilities
  • Report to and receive work assignments from the Scene Shop Supervisor at the beginning of each shift.
  • Assist with the organization, maintenance, and cleanliness of the scene shop, warehouse, paint room, tool room, and workspaces.
  • Support shop safety initiatives by following established safety procedures and proper equipment operation protocols.
  • Maintain and organize tools, equipment, materials, and supplies to ensure efficient shop operations.
  • Clean and maintain shop equipment, including cutting tools and workstations, before and after use.
  • Assist with scenic construction, assembly, painting, and production-related projects as assigned.
  • Support students working on film and production projects by providing basic shop guidance and directing questions to supervisory staff when appropriate.
  • Learn and assist with shop equipment maintenance procedures, including pneumatic tool systems, dust collection systems, and related equipment.
  • Assist with inventory management, material organization, and warehouse operations.
  • Attend and successfully complete required safety trainings and certifications.
  • Lift, move, and transport equipment, tools, scenery, and materials while following established safety procedures.
  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and productive working environment for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to learn and follow shop safety procedures and operational protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining safe and organized workspaces.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative with assigned projects and tasks.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment, tools, and materials safely.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to follow directions.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with SketchUp, VCarve, or similar design and fabrication software.
  • Experience with painting, set construction, woodworking, fabrication, or warehouse operations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and organization.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new technical skills.
