Job description

Scale Attendant

Location: Hamtramck Recycling – Hamtramck, MI


Join the Team That Keeps Our Operation Moving

Hamtramck Recycling is looking for a dependable, organized, and customer-focused Scale Attendant to join our team. As one of the first people our customers and drivers interact with, you'll play an important role in keeping our operation running safely, efficiently, and accurately.

Our Scale Attendants do much more than weigh trucks. They assist customers and drivers, process paperwork, answer phones, coordinate with operations, and help keep traffic flowing throughout the facility. Every day is different, making this a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment and takes pride in providing excellent customer service.


What You'll Do

  • Greet customers, vendors, and drivers in a professional and friendly manner
  • Weigh inbound and outbound trucks using computerized scale software
  • Process customer transactions, scale tickets, and shipping documents
  • Verify customer information, materials, and load documentation
  • Answer incoming phone calls and assist customers with general questions
  • Coordinate with dispatch, operations, yard personnel, and drivers throughout the day
  • Perform accurate data entry and maintain daily scale records
  • Process payments when required
  • Maintain organized electronic and paper filing systems
  • Monitor truck traffic and assist with directing vehicles safely through the facility
  • Follow all company safety policies and operational procedures
  • Assist with general office and administrative duties as needed
  • Help support other departments as business needs require

What We're Looking For

  • Previous scale house experience is helpful but not required—we are willing to train the right candidate
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Comfortable working with computers, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and basic data entry
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy
  • Basic math and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
  • Professional attitude with dependable attendance
  • Comfortable working in a busy industrial environment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Customer service, administrative, office, logistics, or dispatch experience preferred
  • Previous experience in recycling, transportation, trucking, manufacturing, waste, or construction industries is a plus, but not required

Schedule

Full-Time Position

  • Monday – Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Rotating Saturdays: 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Saturday shifts are rotated among the Scale Attendants to provide coverage while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
