About the Role
GR Metrology, a Best and Brightest Company, is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Scale Service Technician to provide calibration, maintenance, and repair services for industrial scales throughout the Midwest. This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys hands-on problem-solving, working independently in the field, and building trusted customer relationships.
The Scale Service Technician is responsible for ensuring customer weighing equipment performs accurately and reliably through preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair services. This position combines mechanical aptitude, technical expertise, customer interaction, and professional documentation while delivering world-class service to our customers.
Essential Functions
Calibration, Maintenance amp; Repair
  • Perform onsite and in-shop preventive maintenance on industrial scales and weighing systems.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and verify the performance of industrial scales.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Prepare for service visits by reviewing work orders, procedures, required tools, and customer requirements.
  • Accurately document services performed, calibration data, repairs, and customer findings using company software systems.
  • Generate calibration reports and Certificates of Calibration following completed service work.
  • Maintain company-provided tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working condition.
Customer Service
  • Serve as a professional and knowledgeable representative of GR Metrology at customer locations.
  • Communicate calibration results, repair findings, and service recommendations clearly and effectively.
  • Build customer confidence by acting as a trusted advisor regarding measurement equipment performance and compliance.
  • Identify opportunities to support customer needs and promote GR Metrology products and services.
  • Generate service and sales leads through customer interactions and relationship building.
Emergency Response amp; Field Service
  • Respond to emergency service calls to troubleshoot and repair customer scales during or after normal business hours, as required.
  • Travel to customer facilities to provide timely field service support.
  • Work overtime, weekends, and occasional overnight travel as business needs dictate.
Safety, Quality amp; Professionalism
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures while working in customer and company facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely service documentation.
  • Promote a culture of quality, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Demonstrate reliability through strong attendance, punctuality, sound judgment, and a positive work ethic.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Strong mechanical, electronic, and/or technical experience in an industrial environment.
  • Strong computer proficiency with the ability to learn calibration and service management software.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.
  • Ability to obtain a Class B CDL, if required.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and occasional overnight travel.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and work in physically demanding environments for extended periods.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience servicing industrial scales, weighing systems, or related equipment.
  • Military experience, particularly in maintenance, calibration, instrumentation, or technical disciplines.
  • Welding knowledge or experience.
  • Experience working in field service environments.
  • Familiarity with industrial measurement equipment and preventive maintenance programs.
