Job description

Service Technician – Biro of Chicago Inc.

If you’re the kind of technician who likes getting your hands on real equipment, solving real problems, and being trusted as the expert on-site, this role is built for you. Biro of Chicago Inc. has been a leader in food equipment for over 60 years, and we’re expanding our service team with techs who take pride in doing the job right.
Why This Role Matters
You’ll work directly with retail scales, packaging systems, and food processing equipment—keeping grocery stores, processors, and retailers up and running. Every day brings something different, and your technical skill will make an immediate impact.
We back our team with one of the strongest benefits packages in the industry:
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, and Life Insurance — 100% company-paid.
  • 401(k) with a 50% company match.
  • PTO.
  • Company Vehicle.
  • A stable, long-standing company that invests in its technicians.

What You’ll Do:
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain equipment in the field and in-house.
  • Interpret electrical schematics and troubleshoot accurately.
  • Service retail scales, wrappers, and food processing/packaging equipment.
  • Support customers via phone, email, and mostly on-site visits.
  • Handle basic IT/networking tasks (routers, LANs, wireless access) training given.
  • Perform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain your company vehicle, laptop, and parts inventory.
  • Deliver professional, reliable service to a wide range of customers.

What You Bring:
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Clear communication and a customer-first mindset.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Preferred Experience:
  • HS Diploma/GED with 2–4 years of relevant technical experience.
  • 3+ years working with food equipment or similar machinery.
  • Hands-on electrical/mechanical repair experience.

Physical Requirements:
  • Lift 50–75 lbs (with or without assistance).
  • Drive 2–5 hours/day; walk 1–3 miles/day.
  • Kneel, squat, bend, push/pull as needed.
  • Work in varied environments (hot, cold, wet, noisy).
  • Availability for overtime and on-call rotation.
