Duties * You will plan, lay out, and perform the machine operations and bench work to construct models and prototypes for the NRL research community. * You will construct complete visual displays and exhibits in support of the NRL Exhibits Program. * You will use of a full variety of wood working tools, machines and use knowledge and expertise in the characteristics of all types of wood and wood substitutes. * You will construct, install, repair, and maintain exhibits, training devices, and visual displays. * You will performs layout work, make templates and jigs when necessary. * You will prepare basic frames, select proper materials, fashion and shape parts from wood and other non-metal materials to scale or full size and then assemble. Additional information You will work in tiring positions for prolonged periods. Work requires frequent standing, bending, stooping crouching and arm movements. You will frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 45 pounds and may occasionally lift heavier items with assistance. You will be frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts and serious injuries, such as loss of fingers, from accidents while operating wood working machines. You will be frequently exposed to splinters, saw dust and flying wooden objects from rotating wood working machinery. You will frequently be exposed to eye, skin, nose and lung irritations from glue, bonding chemicals, vapors and sawdust.
