What are scaffolders and what do they do?

Scaffolders are skilled tradespeople who assemble and dismantle temporary structures, known as scaffolding, used to support workers and materials during construction, maintenance, or repair of buildings and other large structures. Their work ensures that construction sites are safe by providing platforms at various heights. Scaffolders must follow strict safety regulations and use specialized equipment to erect stable scaffolding systems. They also inspect scaffolding regularly to ensure it remains secure throughout a project.

What are some common safety challenges scaffolders face on the job, and how are they addressed?

Scaffolders frequently encounter safety challenges such as working at heights, handling heavy materials, and ensuring the structural stability of scaffolding systems. To address these challenges, strict adherence to safety protocols is essential, including the use of personal protective equipment, regular inspection of scaffolding components, and thorough training in assembly and disassembly procedures. Most job sites also require scaffolders to work closely with site supervisors and health and safety officers to minimize risks and maintain compliance with regulations. Ongoing communication and teamwork are critical to maintaining a safe work environment.
