Job description

At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in Gardena, CA! About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you'll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Gardena, CA

Details:

  • In-Person Tutoring in Gardena, CA
  • Schedule: 10 hours a month, 2 sessions a week for 1.15 hours
  • Pay rate ranges from $25-$35 per hour

Ideal Candidate:

  • Fluent in both English and Spanish (required)
  • Experience working with students with Autism and IEPs
  • Strong background in foundational literacy instruction, including phonics, sight words, decoding, blending, and segmenting sounds
  • Skilled at supporting early reading development through explicit, systematic instruction
  • Experience teaching handwriting, fine motor-based writing activities, and written language development
  • Patient, engaging, and able to provide consistent encouragement and positive reinforcement
  • Comfortable using visual supports, sentence starters, graphic organizers, and scaffolded writing strategies
  • Familiar with supporting students who receive Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Special Education services
  • Able to create structured, interactive lessons that maintain student engagement
  • Creative and flexible in incorporating student interests into instruction to increase motivation
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport with students and families

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized literacy instruction focused on phonics, sight words, decoding CVC words, blending, and segmenting sounds
  • Support the development of foundational reading skills through structured, multisensory learning activities
  • Reinforce reading skills through guided practice and opportunities to apply skills in connected text
  • Assist with handwriting development, fine motor coordination, and written expression
  • Use sentence starters, visual word banks, and scaffolded writing activities to build independence in writing
  • Support students in organizing and expressing ideas through structured written responses
  • Implement engaging instructional strategies that align with the student's learning profile and strengths
  • Incorporate hands-on activities, technology-based learning, and interactive lessons to increase participation
  • Utilize student interests such as Legos and Nintendo to build motivation and engagement during sessions
  • Monitor progress, provide feedback, and adjust instruction as needed to support continued growth
  • Maintain a supportive, patient, and encouraging learning environment that promotes confidence and independence
