Scada System Integrator information

What is a SCADA system integrator?

A SCADA System Integrator is a professional who designs, implements, and maintains Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for industries such as manufacturing, utilities, and energy. They connect hardware and software components to enable real-time monitoring and control of industrial processes. Their work involves programming, configuring communication protocols, integrating different devices, and ensuring the system operates reliably and securely. SCADA System Integrators often collaborate with engineers, IT personnel, and clients to deliver customized automation solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a SCADA system integrator?

To thrive as a SCADA System Integrator, you generally need a background in electrical engineering or computer science, along with experience in automation and control systems. Familiarity with SCADA platforms (like Wonderware, Ignition, or Siemens), PLC programming, industrial networking, and relevant certifications such as ISA or vendor-specific credentials is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for collaborating with clients and cross-functional teams. These skills and qualifications ensure reliable system integration, minimize downtime, and support the safe and efficient operation of industrial processes.

What are some typical challenges a SCADA system integrator faces during project implementation, and how can they be addressed?

SCADA System Integrators often encounter challenges such as integrating new systems with legacy hardware, ensuring secure and reliable data communication, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams. Addressing these issues involves thorough system assessments, developing robust documentation, and staying current with cybersecurity best practices. Close collaboration with clients, engineers, and IT professionals is essential to identify requirements early and troubleshoot issues efficiently throughout the project lifecycle.

What is the difference between Scada System Integrator vs Control Systems Engineer?

AspectScada System IntegratorControl Systems Engineer
CredentialsRelevant certifications (e.g., ICS, PLC programming)Engineering degree, control systems certifications
Work EnvironmentProject-based, client sites, system installationDesign, development, testing in labs or offices
Industry UsageIndustrial automation, manufacturing, energyAutomation, process control, manufacturing
Search & Comparison IntentImplementation, integration, troubleshootingDesign, analysis, system optimization

The main difference is that a Scada System Integrator focuses on implementing and integrating SCADA systems into existing infrastructure, while a Control Systems Engineer designs and develops control systems, including hardware and software. Both roles require technical expertise, but their focus areas and daily tasks differ within industrial automation projects.

Job description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

Job Description
Anduril is seeking a SCADA Engineer to maintain the mission-critical technology stack that powers our connected factories. You will be responsible for the maintenance and sustainment of our system infrastructure—from SCADA servers to virtualized workloads—while using a modern, cloud-managed approach. You will have the opportunity to work with some of the world’s best engineers, implementing cutting-edge systems in complex, high-stakes manufacturing environments.
WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Implement Strong Change Management Systems: Own the process of change management across all SCADA systems and pushing changes to the shop floor
  • Operate and Maintain Factory Infrastructure: Take ownership of the on-premise infrastructure and control systems supporting factory operations
  • OT Server Infrastructure: Operate and maintain OT server infrastructure including Ignition gateways, historians, MQTT brokers, with disciplined backup and change-control practices
  • OT Network Infrastructure: Operate and maintain OT networking stack for production (MQTT, OPC UA, TCP/IP) and diagnose protocol, timing, and VLAN segmentation issues using packet-level analysis
  • SCADA: Develop Ignition Perspective SCADA applications — views, tag architecture, alarm pipelines, historian configuration, and gateway topology
  • Ensure Performance and Reliability: Maintain, troubleshoot, and debug PLC code on Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms, producing structured, documented code suitable for high-volume manufacturing
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve: Act as the escalation point for resolving complex infrastructure-related issues and outages promptly to maintain factory uptime
  • Collaborate and Document: Work closely with development, security, and operations teams to support application deployment and maintain clear documentation of all infrastructure designs and procedures

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of experience in controls, automations, and IT/OT infrastructure engineering with a strong, demonstrable focus for on-premise systems (servers, storage, virtualization, networking)
  • Proficient in Ignition SCADA development including gateway modules (Tag Historian, Alarm Notification, SQL Bridge, OPC UA, MQTT Engine/Distributor/Transmission)
  • Proficient across the OT network stack — MQTT, OPC UA, TCP/IP, industrial Ethernet, VLANs, switching/routing — with fluency in packet-level analysis
  • Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity — air-gapped networks, network segmentation, server hardening, secure remote access
  • Working knowledge of industry standards such as - ISA/IEC 62443, Purdue Enterprise Reference Model (PERA), NIST 800-82, NIST 800-53
  • Experience with automation and scripting using languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in regulated or defense manufacturing environments (ITAR/EAR-controlled, CMMC, or FDA/aerospace quality systems), NIST 800-171
  • Experience deploying Ignition in redundant/high-availability gateway topologies
  • Experience integrating controls systems with MES and QMS platforms
  • Experience with Windows/Linux configuration and administration.
