SCADA Operators work closely with engineers and technicians to maintain optimal system performance.
What does a scada operator do?
SCADA Operators are responsible for monitoring and controlling industrial processes using specialized computer systems, responding to alarms, and troubleshooting equipment or system issues in real time. They perform regular checks on system performance, document operational events, and coordinate with field technicians or engineers to resolve issues. The role usually involves working in a control room environment and may require shift work, including nights and weekends, depending on the industry. As part of a team, SCADA Operators must maintain clear communication with other departments to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
What skills and qualifications are needed to be a scada operator?
To thrive as a SCADA Operator, you need a strong understanding of industrial control systems, process monitoring, and troubleshooting, usually supported by a technical diploma or relevant certification. Familiarity with SCADA software platforms (such as Wonderware, GE, or Siemens), PLC systems, and basic IT networking is often required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication skills are important soft skills for this role.
