Position Summary
The Director of Small Business Banking leads the strategy, growth, and performance of the bank's small business banking segment (SBB) and treasury management (TM) services. This role is responsible for driving revenue, growing deposits, enhancing client relationships, managing risk, and developing integrated banking solutions that meet the financial needs of small business clients.
The Director of Small Business Banking oversees Retail Relationship Bankers and Small Business Bankers, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and delivering exceptional customer experiences.

Essential Functions
Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to grow small business banking and treasury management portfolios.
  • Identify market opportunities, industry trends, and competitive positioning within the SBB segment.
  • Align treasury solutions (cash management, payments, liquidity) with business client needs.
  • Partner with Senior Leadership and Director of Branch Banking & Operations to achieve overall financial and operational targets.
  • Support CRA initiatives for the bank by being an active member of the Bank's CRA committee and by developing and implementing procedures that align with the Bank's CRA strategy.
  • Meet individual and team sales and deposit goals.

Core Job Responsibilities
  • Drive deposit growth, fee income, and loan production within the small business segment.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified small business prospects.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key small business clients and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and retention.
  • Resolve escalated client issues and ensure service excellence.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and risk management practices.
  • Maintain strong credit quality and portfolio health.
  • Oversee proper documentation and due diligence processes.
  • Collaborate with commercial banking, retail, credit, operations, and technology teams for department continuity and mitigate risk exposure.
  • Expand treasury management adoption across existing and new clients.
  • Lead the delivery and optimization of treasury products and services, including:
  • Cash management solutions
  • ACH, wire, and payment services
  • Fraud prevention and risk mitigation tools
  • Remote deposit capture and liquidity solutions
  • Collaborate with COO, Product & Services Coordinator, Director of Branch Banking & Operations teams to enhance service offerings and technology platforms.
  • Represents the financial institution to the community through good customer relations and participation in bank events.
  • Participate in activities for generating new business such as sales calls and special events.
  • Accountable for the compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations; and Union Bank policies and procedures. Recommend corrections when necessary.
  • Interprets and administers bank policies and procedures relating to SBB & TM functions including completion of necessary compliance related training.

Administrative
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
  • Loan and deposit growth
  • Treasury revenue
  • Client acquisition and retention
  • Portfolio profitability
  • Use data analytics to inform strategy and improve decision-making.
  • Lead or participate in committees as determined (Rate Committee, Products & Services, CRA, etc.)

Management
  • This position, organizes and directs the activities of the assigned departments in pursuit of both individual cost center goals and bank goals.
  • Oversight for sales, service and operations and performance of staff. Will lead these efforts either independently and in partnership with department leadership.
  • This position, organizes and directs the activities of the assigned staff in pursuit of individual production goals and department/bank goals.
  • Ensure all departments are consistently meet performance expectations related to internal and external audit, prepare and implement audit responses as necessary.
  • Lead team to provide excellent customer service with the ability to effectively resolve customer issues. This position will serve as the escalation point for customer concerns.
  • Responsible for sourcing, developing, coaching and leading a team that reinforces Union Banks core values, business objectives and employee performance standards.
  • Demonstrates and maintains a working knowledge of Union Bank's products, services, processes, and internal resources to stay informed, guide and lead the team.
  • Create a culture where employees feel valued, supported, and able to achieve career growth.
  • Coach Small Business Bankers and Relationship Bankers to promote business growth through the development of deposits, assets, fee-based products and services, and the development and retention of new and existing Small Business and TM customers.

Other Functions
  • Other duties assigned from time to time by the Chief Operations Officer or other members of management.
  • Make recommendations to management concerning possible methods to improve accounting functions of department.

Working Conditions of the Job

Job Qualifications

Education & Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field combination of education and experience.
  • 8-12+ years of banking experience, with emphasis in small business banking and/or treasury management.
  • 5+ years of leadership or management experience.
  • 3-5 years' experience in supervision
  • Strong knowledge of treasury products, business lending, and deposit solutions.
  • Proven track record of sales performance and revenue growth.
  • Experience with Jack Henry preferred
