How much do satellite technology jobs pay per hour?

As of May 30, 2026, the average hourly pay for satellite technology in the United States is $19.39, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.59 and $22.12 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Satellite Technology, and why are they important?

To thrive in Satellite Technology, you need a solid background in engineering, physics, or computer science, often supported by a relevant degree and industry certifications. Familiarity with satellite communications systems, RF engineering tools, and software such as MATLAB or STK is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are valuable soft skills in this field. These competencies are crucial for ensuring reliable satellite operation, effective data transmission, and successful project outcomes in a highly technical and collaborative environment.

How does a professional in satellite technology typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a satellite development project?

In the satellite technology field, professionals regularly collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, software developers, project managers, and regulatory specialists. This collaboration ensures that each subsystem—such as propulsion, communications, and data processing—integrates seamlessly into the overall satellite design. Effective communication and regular meetings are essential to address technical challenges, align project timelines, and ensure compliance with industry standards. Working in such a team-oriented environment provides valuable exposure to diverse expertise and accelerates professional growth within the aerospace sector.

What is satellite technology?

Satellite technology refers to the use of artificial satellites in space to provide various services such as communication, navigation, weather forecasting, Earth observation, and scientific research. This technology involves the design, development, launching, and operation of satellites that orbit the Earth or other celestial bodies. Satellites play a crucial role in modern life, enabling global communication, precise GPS navigation, disaster monitoring, and even television broadcasting. The field is interdisciplinary, combining aspects of aerospace engineering, electronics, computer science, and telecommunications.

What jobs make $3,000 a month without a degree?

In satellite technology, roles such as satellite equipment installers, maintenance technicians, or field service technicians can earn around $3,000 monthly without a college degree, especially with relevant technical training or certifications. These jobs often require hands-on skills, knowledge of satellite systems, and safety protocols, and may involve working outdoors or in technical environments.

What is the difference between Satellite Technology vs Satellite Communications Technician?

AspectSatellite TechnologySatellite Communications Technician
Required CredentialsEngineering degree or technical certification in satellite systemsTechnical diploma or certification in satellite communications or electronics
Work EnvironmentDesign, development, and testing of satellite systems in labs or officesInstallation, maintenance, and repair of satellite communication equipment in field or facilities
Employer & Industry UsageSpace agencies, satellite manufacturers, aerospace companiesTelecom providers, satellite service companies, broadcast firms

Satellite Technology involves designing and developing satellite systems, focusing on engineering and technical innovation. In contrast, Satellite Communications Technicians primarily install and maintain satellite communication equipment. Both roles require technical skills but differ in their focus and work environment, with Satellite Technology leaning towards engineering and Satellite Communications Technicians towards field service and maintenance.
