Senior Hardware/Quality Assurance Sustaining Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Hardware/Quality Assurance Sustaining Engineer who will coordinate the qualification/quality and sustained engineering efforts associated with UNICOM Engineering’s custom designed servers as well as commodity servers and server components.

*Temp to Hire Position*

This role’s main responsibilities include:

  • Validate the performance of server electronics, mechanicals and user documentation against Application Deployment Requirements (ADR), Marketing Requirements Document (MRD) and/or Statements of Work (SOW).
  • Validate features and performance using accelerated stress and margining test methodologies.
  • Define and execute test strategies for the qualification of server components including but not limited to disk drives, peripheral cards, processors and memory.
  • Release components for use in new and existing designs. Create documentation where required.
  • Manage new product introduction, and existing product changes using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools. e.g. Engineering Change Orders (ECO), Part Number Requests (PNR), Product Change Notifications (PCN).
  • Support the validation and documentation of prototype platforms for use by customers in early stage evaluations as well as provision systems for functional regulatory lab tests.
  • Perform level 3 failure analysis to determine root cause on field returns and manufacturing yield issues requiring escalation from Support. Work directly with suppliers when required to address design or quality issues.
  • Collaborate with quality engineers, manufacturing engineers, and production personnel at UNICOM Engineering to address product issues.
  • Learn about company's business as appropriate. Shows up to work on time and attends work as scheduled.
  • All other duties as requested by supervisor or department head.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent, plus 3-5 years direct industry experience.
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or equivalent, plus 8-10 years direct industry experience.
  • Proficient in use of MS office applications, including Word, Excel, Visio, and Project.
  • Ability to coordinate with a team of engineers to create, execute and review appropriate test strategies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Windows and advanced Linux OS operating in a server environment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the use of standardized computer server test software.
  • Experience in the debug of electrical systems comprised of high-speed digital and analog power subsystems.
    • Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, Bus/Protocol Analyzers, Hardware Validation, Reading Schematics, PCB/PDB understanding, Signal integrity troubleshooting, Power troubleshooting
    • Communication Analyzers; Ethernet, Fiber Channel, USB, iSCSI/SATA/SAS.
  • Knowledge of PC based server systems, their architectures and the various peripheral components.
    • Server class processors and chipsets; Intel Pentium, Xeon; AMD Celeron, Opteron.
    • Interface and I/O standards; ATA/SATA, SAS/iSCSI, Ethernet, Fiber Channel, USB, RS232, I2C IPMI, ATCA, PCI-E, etc.
    • Server Components, Hard Disk Drives/SSDs/Flash; IDE, PATA, SATA, SAS, iSCSI, FC, Network Interface Cards, Server/Shelf Management controllers, RAID Controllers, Packet Processors, Telephony.
    • Main Logic Board/Server subcomponents; BIOS, BMC, IPMI management, PCI-E Risers, Power Supplies, Cooling Fans, Backplanes/Midplanes, etc.

Additionally, the right candidate should also possess the following qualities:

  • Ability to generate accurate and thorough test plans.
  • Ability to understand basic thermal analysis of electronics.
  • Ability to understand basic electrical principals.
  • Ability to document, track and document project progress and work independently as well as on a team.
  • Ability to follow all applicable Business Management System (BMS) processes.
  • Ability to manage product qualification projects.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to compose reports and correspondence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
