Job description

Proximity Learning provides free supplemental programming to students from our Catholic, Christian, Lutheran, and Independent Chicago Area Schools. We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about children, enthusiastic, reliable, respectful, and patient while working with our students. Starting in January, this 14-week Reading, Writing, and Math SAT Prep course will be available to eligible students.


This role will provide a 50-minute lesson to high school (grade 11) students in small groups, focusing on math, reading, and writing concepts and test-taking strategies they'll be expected to know when taking the SAT exam. The instructor will assign and monitor SAT practice for students using the College Spring Connect Learning dashboard and provide student feedback on this work. This position is highly regarded in the school and requires someone with the flexibility and personality to work as a classroom instructor and a valued resource person.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Provide supplemental instruction to small groups of students on the SAT for their assigned subject area(s) in a pull-out classroom setting.
  • Show students how to analyze texts to pull out the most important details.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the student's subject area classroom teacher to align instruction to support students' development in Reading and Math.
  • Ability to teach SAT prep classes
  • Create a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment to motivate student attendance.
  • Continuously monitor students' progress, formally and informally, to adjust instruction and grouping.
  • Understand the need for maintaining accurate PLI record keeping and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with PLI management, school staff, and parents on student progress.

Job Type: Part-time

Starting Pay Range: $30 an hour

Schedule: 5-hour shift, Mon., Tues., Thurs., and Fri.

Work Location: In person


Basic requirements:

  • Chicago, IL 60644: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
  • 4-year degree required
  • Certification/license is a plus BUT not required.
  • At least one year experience as a classroom teacher, tutor, or as a resource personnel
