Job description

About Rivian
Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role Summary
As a Sr. SAP ABAP Developer specializing in SD, VMS, and Warranty, you will lead and execute complex SAP development projects, provide technical expertise, and help optimize Rivian's SAP systems and automotive business processes. You will drive the architecture and end-to-end technical execution of critical solutions spanning vehicle management, warranty processing, and sales distribution. Additionally, you will leverage modern ABAP paradigms and modern AI tools to accelerate development, improve code quality, and build intelligent business workflows. This position will report to a Sr. Manager and will be located in Atlanta, GA.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of custom SAP solutions focused on SAP SD, Vehicle Management System (VMS), and Warranty Processing.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and functional teams to convert complex vehicle lifecycle, dealer, and warranty requirements into detailed technical specifications.
  • Establish development frameworks, accelerators, design patterns, and procedures while promoting modern ABAP programming models (RAP, CDS views, clean-core principles, and SAP BTP).
  • Provide high-level technical designs and architecture/integration process-flow diagrams for complex projects, breaking technical work into manageable tasks for planning and prioritization.
  • Strong understanding on creating integration using Kafka/BOOMI/ or any another integration platform
  • Coordinate technical deliverables across geographically distributed development teams and provide production support and root-cause analysis for high-priority incidents.
  • Design and build scalable interfaces (OData/REST, IDocs, BAPIs, SOAP) connecting SAP SD/VMS/Warranty with external systems, such as Dealer Management Systems (DMS) and customer portals.
  • Leverage AI development tools (e.g., SAP Joule, AWS Bedrock, Amazon Q, GitHub Copilot, or Generative AI code assistants) to accelerate code generation, optimize refactoring, automate unit test creation, and perform smart code reviews.
  • Identify, prototype, and implement AI-driven process enhancements within the SAP pipeline.
  • Stay current with SAP technologies through proofs-of-concept, use-case identification, and demonstrations to design solutions that support new products and markets.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience, with deep technical expertise in SAP SD, Vehicle Management System (VMS), and Warranty Processing modules.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Expert knowledge of core and modern ABAP programming models, including OO ABAP, RAP, CDS views, BAdIs, user exits, IDocs, BAPIs, OData, workflows, and forms (Adobe Forms/SmartForms).
  • Hands-on experience with modern SAP ecosystems such as SAP Fiori, Application Interface Framework (AIF), SAP BTP, and clean-core principles.
  • Demonstrated familiarity or practical experience with AI-assisted coding tools, prompt engineering, and integrating AI capabilities into SAP workflows.
  • Strong ability to create technical architecture, system integration process-flow diagrams, and scalable solutions for complex cross-functional requirements.
  • Proven experience leading geographically distributed development teams and establishing SAP development procedures and best practices.
  • Automotive or manufacturing SAP experience is required; strong analytical, problem-solving, project prioritization, and communication skills.
