Techwish is seeking a Principal SAP S/4HANA EPPM Architect for a contract opportunity supporting a major enterprise transformation initiative for one of it's clients in Columbia, MD.

Role Description

We are seeking a Principal SAP S/4HANA Architect with deep Enterprise Portfolio and Project Management (EPPM) expertise to lead the design of project and portfolio management capabilities within an SAP S/4HANA environment.

The architect will define how project and portfolio performance is evaluated using real-time financial controlling and human resource data. This role will focus on establishing standardized approaches for project prioritization, financial and capacity planning, portfolio evaluation, scenario analysis, internal controls, and data quality management throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on knowledge of SAP EPPM/PPM, SAP Project System (PS), Controlling (CO), and HR integration, with the ability to translate business requirements into scalable SAP solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture and solution design for SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Portfolio and Project Management (EPPM) capabilities.

  • Define approaches for reviewing project and portfolio performance using real-time financial and human resource data.

  • Design standardized project scoring methodologies, evaluation criteria, and questionnaires to support portfolio prioritization and decision-making.

  • Define processes for financial demand and capacity planning across the project lifecycle.

  • Design portfolio evaluation capabilities, including project prioritization and performance monitoring.

  • Support what-if scenario analysis for portfolio planning, resource allocation, and investment decisions.

  • Define approaches for internal control monitoring within project and portfolio management processes.

  • Establish systematic processes for identifying and resolving data quality issues, including unliquidated obligations and other project financial data exceptions.

  • Lead fit-to-standard workshops, working with business stakeholders and functional teams to align requirements with SAP standard capabilities.

  • Define integration architecture and data flows between EPPM, SAP CO, SAP PS, and HR.

  • Provide architectural guidance for project financial management, resource/capacity planning, portfolio management, and reporting.

  • Contribute to the overall solution blueprint and architecture documentation.

  • Support ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) planning and solution estimation.

  • Provide solution architecture leadership during Phase 1 mobilization.

  • Identify gaps between business requirements and SAP standard functionality and recommend appropriate solution approaches.

  • Collaborate with functional leads, business stakeholders, technical teams, and SAP implementation partners.

  • Ensure the proposed solution supports scalability, data quality, integration, governance, and long-term maintainability.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Extensive experience as an SAP S/4HANA Architect / Solution Architect with strong EPPM expertise.

  • Deep hands-on experience with SAP Enterprise Portfolio and Project Management (EPPM) and/or SAP Portfolio and Project Management (PPM).

  • Strong knowledge of SAP Project System (PS) and its integration with EPPM.

  • Strong understanding of SAP Controlling (CO) and project financial management.

  • Experience integrating project and portfolio management processes with SAP HR/HCM or workforce/resource management capabilities.

  • Experience designing project portfolio management, project prioritization, scoring, evaluation, and governance processes.

  • Strong understanding of financial planning, project demand, capacity planning, and portfolio monitoring.

  • Experience with what-if scenario analysis and portfolio optimization.

  • Strong understanding of project financial data quality and controls, including identification and resolution of issues such as unliquidated obligations.

  • Proven experience leading fit-to-standard / fit-to-gap workshops.

  • Experience defining integration architecture and end-to-end data flows across SAP modules.

  • Strong ability to translate complex business requirements into practical SAP solution designs.

  • Experience contributing to solution blueprints, ROM estimates, and implementation mobilization activities.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Ability to operate at both strategic architecture and detailed functional design levels.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with large-scale SAP S/4HANA transformation or implementation programs.

  • Experience working in complex enterprise or public-sector environments.

  • Experience with SAP portfolio governance, investment planning, project prioritization, and project performance management.

  • Experience with SAP Fiori and modern S/4HANA user experiences related to project and portfolio management.

  • Experience working in Agile or SAP Activate implementation methodologies.

  • Experience collaborating across business, functional, technical, and integration teams.
