Job description

MK Magnetics (www.mkmagnetics.com) specializes in the production of custom and standard tape wound soft magnetic cores for transformers and inductors. All the cores we sell are manufactured on site in Adelanto, California in a modern 75,000 sqft facility specially designed and built for manufacturing tape wound magnetic cores.

This entry to intermediate level position is responsible for learning the procedures and techniques involved in the cutting of tape wound magnetic cores.

Responsibilities:

  • Observes senior Sanding and Sizing Workers conducting various tasks to learn procedures and techniques.
  • Reads process sheet for sanding and sizing instructions and core dimensions.
  • Uses grinder to pre-bevel edge of face of core to prevent laminations from coming loose.
  • Sets up belt or wet sander with proper adhesive grinding belt to be used for specific core, asking for assistance when needed.
  • Sets face of core on sander, holding core evenly and firmly in place.
  • Uses foot pedal to start belt sander and maintains even pressure on core; stopping and checking core face for completeness and evenness.
  • Uses knife to remove excess material to sizes cores to specific dimensions on process sheet; using calipers to verify measurements.
  • Utilizes fixtures, when available, to increase sizing speed; verifying set-up of fixture with core sized to verified dimensions, spot checking fixture periodically to verify still to size.
  • Uses grinder to final bevel all edges of face of cores after sizing.
  • Polishes faces of cores using light abrasive belt after final bevel.
  • โ€œDiamond lapsโ€ faces of cores, when required, by moving core over paper covered with lapping fluid over flat surface.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
  • Continually increases knowledge of Sanding and Sizing Department to include those skills required to advance to Sanding and Sizing Worker II status.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), preferred
  • Minimum one year experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience as a Machine Operator and/or Sheet Metal Fabricator
  • Hand and power tools used in manufacturing work; especially tools used for precision measurement.
  • Forklifts and other material handling equipment, preferred.
  • Hazards and safety precautions used in the manufacturing industry, preferred
  • Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in order to calculate quantities, measurements, weights, etc.
